          Areating lawns not equal

It is difficult to go by the square footage as all lawns are different. Obstacles and slopes need to be considered. We use a multiplier from the mowing price. It has worked better than any other method we have tried the last 20 years.
          Lawn mowing price--$30...multiplier 3.5....Aeration price--$105
Seem high??? Not really. Consider that to do it properly you need to call in for locates as many times cable and phone lines are too shallow. If you do not and hit one you are liable and the customer is unhappy. We provide flags to customers with irrigation or charge a little extra to mark heads, valve boxes. etc. Always ask the customer to mark any shallow items...ie...line to the yard light....etc. Should be deep enough but many fly by night so called electricians are not fluent with the NEC. If you couldn't tell..I am also a City Inspector and run into these things all the time.

            Ditto to Phyl's numbers.

            $65.00 per HALF ACRE......NO WAY.....that is only $3.00 per 1,000 sq.ft.

            I usually charge around $12.00 per 1,000

The old way of doing it was a penny per sf, which is about $10/1000sf.

              $15/1000 works out to a penny and a half/sf.

The lowest you should go .008/sf, and this would be considered the "budget" price.

The "budget" crowd are people I won't work for. They are the ones who want all services dirt cheap; and they want to hire a professional because they don't want to do it themselves. However, the kicker is that they want a Mercedes for the price of a Geo. Does that sum it up for you?

I think it's easier to sell aeration if you push seeding along with it. People understand seed ... aeration not always.

Does seeding fall under any sort of chemical app category - requiring a license?

Not in Maryland.....all State laws are different........it should not fall under chem apps in any state...but, that does not mean you do not need a license to put seed down. Better check with local dept of agriculture.

I think aeration is a pain in the rear end so I charge out the a"" for it and if they dont like my prices i just wont do it, For instance I have this tiny yard dont know the demsions but it takes about 20 mins to mow no lie, and I charge them 235 for aerating , and if they wont it seeded 2 thats another 80 bucks, I mean if im gonna waste my time doin it its gotta pay good

No you do not need a chem. license in any state, it is not considered hazardous.
Yes Phil, I am making seeding part of the aeration program, If they want one they have to buy both.
Thanks to all of you for your input for the cost. I thought I was quite a bit low on this one. Thanks again......
