  • Got one !!!

Finally got a "bite" and got someone who wants me to mow for them. I don't know any specifics yet, but customer is calling me back later this afternoon. Since I am a one person show with just a 21" push mower and the trunk of my mid sized car, do any of you have any "Do's or Don'ts" (or other advice) to help me prepare for this phone call--so that I don't lose my first customer. For example, advice about price, verbal contracts--anything. Thanks.

I agree with Hisenter. Make sure you visit the customer and walk their entire yard before giving a quote. I have had people try to get me to just give them a round-a-bout price over the phone and they will say ohh its about a 1/4 of an acre. You get to their residence and its about ohh at least an acre! Tell your customer it is important for you to evaluate their site in order to give them an accuarate estimate. Most are more than willing to have you come by. Its good customer service also. You get to know them, what they are like and what they want. Often it can lead to other jobs when you see a problem in their yard and suggest a solution. It will also save you from taking a job that you and your equipment may not be able to handle by yourself. Good Luck!
