Is it better to go with minimum care when giving a quote for businesses or should I include all the goodies like fertilization and aeration?

Ask them what they want in the contract (mowing, fertilizing, snow plowing)and then ask if they want an estimate for additional services that are usually not on a contract (aerating, dethatching, seeding, landscaping, etc).

I usually give them a quote for the basic mow, trim, edge and blow. Then I will give them a sheet that lists all the other services I offer. If they want any of those added in I will adjust the cost of the service to what the customer wants. This works out because at a later date they will call back to add maybe a pressure wash of the house or a fall clean up or bushes trimmed.

I have had several of my customers have me do more this year referring back to the fliers I handed out to them last year.

i use 2 part carbons that list several service items. this way even if i dont check an item they still see i offer it. i try to avoid frills on new client bids. I actually sometimes suggest that i will only bid basic stuff to them if i sense they are teeter totter people. After i work work the site a few times i might talk about other stuff. you dont want to make them them think theyre stuck w/ high pressure high cost sales on a weekly basis if they hire you.

Like SEASCAPE, I made up a 2 part carbon-less form. Half a page so you can get twice as many for what printer charges you to make them.

Has place for their name, address, phones, who referred them or who they live by. First slot is MOW/TRIM/BLOW weekly: $________
Next I list SERVICE AVAILABLE INCLUDE: and go down the line with FERT, Edging, Shrub Trim, Weed/Bed Maint, Spring/Fall Cleanup, aeration, mulching, small tree removal. For FERT I have a separate section explaining the what & when of the 5 step program I use.

I measure the Sq Ft to help determine a Mow rate. Since I now have the Sq Ft I also fill in a quote for FERT based on my factor, same for aeration. I list an hourly rate for the other services. This way a customer - Business OR Residential knows what I do and how much it will cost them. Seems to work well as they usually just call and ask for a Mow quote and when they get my form they almost always add on at least one extra service. Kind of an ala-carte method so they can pick and choose what program they want/need/can afford.
