  • Whats the best way to get new accounts?

Me and a buddy have been mowing yards for a couple yrs now and are looking to get into it bigger scale this yr since we are out of school. We have got the equipment but we really would like more accounts and im not having much luck getting them. We do a good job and compete in price so what would be the best methods of advertising in what social class neighbor hoods?

Go out and talk to the people face to face. Hand out some business cards.

I live in a town of about 12,000 people. There is a weekly newspaper that has a subscription of about 7,000. I put a flyer in this paper the last week of February and have been overwhelmed by the # of people who have called. After I do the jobs, and if you are providing quality service, then word of mouth will take over. I'll be glad to send you a copy of our insert. Also, I run a weekly ad in the same paper. Consistency in newspaper advertising is key. You just can't run an ad one time and expect folks to remember. You have to run it over and over. Trust me, it is working for us.
          Good luck.

One of the easiest ways is to look for customers where you already are. It has the added benefit of building a concentrated route, reducing travel time.
Try cloverleafing. Leave your ad at the house on either side of every account you service, and the one across the street. Make sure you leave a specific door hangar so they get the reference.
              Example:

              Hi Neighbor,

This is a fast draft but for 22 years our guys posted these and in some cases we had 10 accounts on one block alone.
