Is passing flyers considered soliciting? I take the phrase liberally, and when I see a "no soliciting" sign in a neighborhood I pass the neighborhood and go onto another. Does anyone know any more about this?

Yes, you are soliciting your services to the potential customer. Anything you try to sell is considered soliciting, even non profit things such as political campaigning are considered soliciting.

      Hello Nathan,

This could be a very interesting topic. I know flyers are considered solicitating as well as knocking on doors. Here's one for you though. I have a friend who has been in this business over twenty five years and he says these signs tend to attract him rather than discourage. His reason being these sub divisions are hit far less and it's much easier to get a job there. Myself like you are a bit afraid of these areas. It would be nice to hear what others have to say.

Reminds me of the time i sent a guy down a road to do flyers real quick. It was a road w/ about 30 houses on it that i kept wanting to hit but never did. Phil came back w/ all his flyers cause the first house chased him off. Needless to say i payed that dick a visit and he was much more polite to me than he was phil. This street wasnt posted and we were completely legal. The only problem you will have in the posted neighborhoods are from those that dont want your literature. Most that would happen though is a fine. Chances are though they will just ask you to stop.

You would do best by passing up those neighborhoods that have posted no soliciting signs. A quick tip, most neighborhoods with posted signs are part of a homeowners association. Most associations put out newsletters. Most newsletters offer advertising to cover the costs of the publication. Check to see if the neighborhood you want to hit is part of an association and check into the advertising. The most return on any add i have run has been with these types of publications. It does two things. First it gets the word out to every home and saves you the leg work. Second it targets an area that has the potential for more than one job. You make more money driving around the block for your next client than you do driving across town.Good luck
