  • How much longer should i be able to pick up accounts

Well here in tx the weeds are already growing and the grass is just starting to turn this week. I got really decent response from my flyers about 3 weeks ago but ive been passin a few out about 500 total since then and ive only got 2 accounts. Im posting a spring special rate of $25 dollars on them and passing them out where the yards only take me about 30 -45 min max ..about what id charge 30 for by myself just because i need to get a little volume to start out with. The 2 accounts i got were out of 30 business cards i stuck on some mailboxes about a mile from my house. One was a 55 dollar job that took me an hr and the other is a front yard every 2 weeks for 30 dollars that takes me 30 min to do. My goal was to have 30 to 40 accounts by the end of april ... i have 10 right now and at the rate things are going the last 2 weeks ill be happy with 20. Once i get the call i can always sell them ... Just wish i was getting some calls.. how much longer should i have to really have a chance of getting quite a few

The answer is the "entire season" ... offer landscape installs at any level for new biz contacts ... to mowing ... offer the other stuff ... weed control, get your pesticide license ... you have a long season to fill with work.

Well i plan on advertising the whole yr but i was wondering in general when does your response rate really decline you know due to ppl have already signing up with other lcos.. I advertise to be a full service lawn company... I dont have a chem license but i either sub it out or give the ppl the guys card to call him theirself to avoid having me tack a fee on it. Id like to make money off of every chem app but right now since im just getting on my feet again its nice if give them the option that way they think they are gettting the choice to get the best deal out of it and most the time i dont have to deal with it and when i do ill make a few bucks and they know that and dont have a cow when they are charged 10 or 15 more then the guy charges and they dont have to deal with it.

You will continue to add all year long if you are doing quality work. These high school kids other start-ups will start to fade when it gets hot... I picked up three customers at the end of last season because their previous guy dissappeared....

              To actually answer your question

I've gotten call backs for flyers 2 and 3 months after I handed them out. Sometimes people change their mind about getting lawn service, someone gets sick and can't do it anymore, or it gets too hot and they don't want to do it themselves anymore, whatever it might be. That's for lawn service. For landscaping, people might just have a certain time of year in mind they want a project done, for whatever reason. COuld be late summer, fall, whenever but if they have your flyer you could get the call.

                When it's Hot, It's Hot!

I've landed more accounts after July, than I have before July.

The heat here eliminates a lot of folks in July, August & September. This is when the other guys slow down from the heat, lack of manpower & increased breakdowns Mentally & Physically (LOL). Heat is your friend take advantage of every degree of it!

We worked harder & did our best work when it was over 95 degrees, because everybody else was slowing down.

I mainly did Residential year round maintenance agreements so the time of the year didn't matter that much as far as getting new work.

I've gave bids & they call me 6 months later, I've been dropped & called back at a higher rate later. Those bids I gave & they call me back months later... They remembered what I told them I would do for them that the cheaper guy didn't do.

You will be able to acquire new customers year round. Grassmaster has a point, the hotter it gets the better your odds are of getting new biz.

I hit my 2 percent I've got 100 fliers out so far and have gotten two full season contracts out of them. If it'd stop raining up here in CT i could get another 800 out.
