  • Pine Straw pricing

    Good morning everyone,

I got a call from a guy today that said he does want his lawn mowed but also asking for an estimate on putting pine straw in a large island. He said it normally takes about 80 bales of straw and for us to get back to him by tomorrow on what it would cost for us to do it. My friend and I are kind of new at this; we have mowed on the side for a few years, but we don't normally do any landscape work, except shrubs/hedges so just wondering: How much over the cost of the pinestraw should we charge per bale. We will look for the lowest price possible, but for example, say we find it for 3.50 per bale, should we charge him 4.50 per bale? And then, how much for actually spreading the pinestraw? Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

I pay $2.85 per bale of pine straw. I charge the client $6.00 per bale to deliver and install it. If they order 100 or more I drop the price to $5.50 per bale. If the job will bring in more jobs from the same client then I hav been known to reduce the price to $5.00 per bale.

There are lots of people doing the same work for $5.00 per bale no minimum.

      Thanks h.

Thanks for the advice. It's weird, but my friend and I were actually coming up with about the same amount overall, but we were thinking of the pine straw as one part of the price and labor as the other, but your advice is more streamlined so we'll go with it. We will be paying 3.00 plus tax each bale so we were figuring charging him 4.00 per bale (80 bales) and then on top of that about 160.00 for labor but we'll just use your method and say 500.00 to deliver and install.
      Thanks again.
