How much $ to be made in hedge trimming???

I have a gas hedge trimmer. I am wondering how much I should charge on a job that would take me 30 minutes to do including cleaning up clippings. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! I am also wondering about how to sell myself in hedgtrimming. My brother and I have about 15 regular mowing accounts right now and are going to ask customers who need hedge trimming done if they would like us to do it for them. The question is other than these customers, how do you get hedge trimming customers? Should I just add that we do hedge trimming onto our flyers?

if you can do it, and do a good job, then advertise.

it's up to you how much you want to charge......if you're like me you'll start by quoting low and just seeing how long it takes you to do an average yard of hedges and use that to estimate other yards, and apply your hourly rate.

For the job your talking about $25.00 -$30.00. usual rate around here is $45.00 - $60.00 per hr. Don't let the the customer know that though, set your rate, figure your time and give a price! Watch out for wasps in shrubs this time of year!
Put on your flyers that you trim shrubs and hedges and when you do a prop. ask about trimming their shrubs.

don't forget if you have to be on a ladder to add some more time. The moving of the ladder and the fact that you could fall off. I did a job last week, constant moving of the ladder.

If you can, try to learn about proper pruning techniques for different types of plants. If you can sell work off to customers using that knowledge, they'll be more interested because they know you know what you are doing. Remember that constant shearing will create a thick top layer letting no light to get to the bottom. So every few years, it may be necessary to do some thinning work to help grow from the inside again.
