New member been a guest for a while. I have been mowing for about 4 years, 3 years at a golf course. Went to aviation school and realized it wasn't what I wanted to do. So now i fly for fun. I love being outside, can't be in a office. Just about done my first year of college. My plans are to build up a business throughout college and do it full time after i graduate.
This is the mower i just bought. Is it a good deal?

    I paid $1,800 new. It is a 32 inch Toro Proline T-Bar.

I am also about to buy a Redmax b/p blower 8000. I hear it is a nice blower.
I was thinking about buying a power sweeper from redmax to help with spring and fall clean ups. Do you guys think it is a good model and do you think it is worth the money. Should I buy a rake instead.

Thanks for all your help. This site has been a great resource.

Sounds good so far I would invest in a good String trimmer that can have the brush cutting blade put on too.

I have the Shindaiwa T261X Great machine tons of power. I also have two Shindaiwa Eb630's which is the same thing from what i hear as your Redmax 8000

Since I am just starting out I am going to get by with my dads stihl 250 trimmer. I might get a new one later in the summer. How does the Redmax do as far as trimmers?

I use only Shindaiwa Equipment from what my dealer tells me they are exactly the same basically I think my shindaiwa is a little easier to use than the red max's just personal opinion tho. If you already have a trimmer then definitly get the power broom very nice machines i'm purchasing one for next spring.

If you plan on going full time after college and are not majoring in turf management save yourself the $30,000 (which you will make in your first year). I went and became a teacher and am counting the days until I am vested (for insurance) so I can make some real money. I partnered up this year and we will make more cutting grass (while it's growing not all year, after school) than we do teaching with master's degrees. Liberal Arts education is not worth what it used to be. Go to a tech school if you just have to have a degree for your mother's sake.

I am going to finish up at a local college where they gave me a leadership scholarship (full tuition). They do offer a turf management degree but I might just take some classes at a local community college during the winter for turf, they look a little better than the ones at the private college. I want to have a degree in management first and take classes on the side to help with the lawn care. some day I might wake up and get tired of mowing and want to do something different. You never know what can happen, just take one day at a time.

                Good luck with the business.
