They go for about 45-55,000$ depending on options. At 17 years old what do you need an F-550 for? If they are selling it for 25,000 dollars it has probably been worked and worked hard.

its hard to say a truck @ 50k miles & being 3 y/o has been worked hard... 50k miles/3years= 16,666 miles a year, about 45miles a day.... but if it was a car, then u could say 50k miles isn't too bad for 3yrs, but then again w/a car or a small p/u ur mainly just drivin around not towing large landscaping trailers loaded w/back hoes.....

If that truck had 10 yards of dirt in the back of it or was towing a 20,000 pound trailer around for all of those 50,000miles I would say that it has been worked hard. Does it have the Gas or Diesel engine If it has the Gas engine I would say to stay the hell away because they hold up even less to heavy strains like those.

According to Ford you can put 13,000lbs in the Bed so that equals about 16yards in the bed yards since a yard weighs in at about 800lbs or so. And you can tow about 14 or 15,000lbs

u orginally asked, why @ 17 do i need a truck like this, well i figured if i stay in business for at least 5 years it will be worth the investment and paid for.... i get about 200 yrd mulch installs a year on average so X 5years= 1k yrds of mulch X $55 a yrd= $55k- expenses & my pay roll, this truck will be paid for..... when i go to sell the truck, i will be able to get about $10-15k for it.... $25k-10k= $15k lost, but it was an business investment....

Watch out, they are well known for transmission problems.

Erich, just curious as to the trans problems. The '02 were still the 7.3 diesels and 4R100 I think. If it is stick, there should be no problem at all. There were teething problems with the new 6.0's and tourqueshift transmissions, but ford is dealing with that (I love my '04 f250).
As was said above, stay away from a truck this size in gas. I have an '02 f650 (but that is a totally different beast than a 550) and it will take aything I throw at it. How much mulch can you move in a DAY. What is the sense of having a truck that will move 16 yards to a site when you can only spread 5 yards in a day?
