  • New mower, YEAH BABY!

Just started a lawn service business this year. Basically I jumped in w/ both feet. Lots of reasearch on the internet and found this site, definetely good stuff!
Anyway, I was able to piecemeal my fleet of equipment from friends in the golf course business (thats my roots) as well as doing jobs for a mower here and there. The two 21" residetial's aren't cuting it (no pun intended). I bought a 36" scag and ordered the mulch shield, (any comments on this)! Should I still be looking for new accounts or is it to late in the season. Stick with the customers I have and make it easy with the new mower, or go ballz to the wall?

This is the time in the season where everyone has decided that A) their yard HAS TO get cut for the first time this season (like my 2.5 acre job yesterday) but it's too much for their equipment/talent or B) they're tired of the cheaper-than-last-year guy who they decided to try out and they've realized the guy's cheaper because he sucks b*lls. Always go for new customers...

Please be advised that the Scag Mulch Plate is useless. Please purchase the Scag Hurricane Mulching System.

The hurricane system is a bit more $$. I asked about it at the dealer and they told me it isn't worth it. The could have taken me for a ride and tried to sell it to me but opted not to. They recomended the mulch plate and said I would be fine. I'll give it a shot I guess.

Mr. turfman, your dealer is an idiot. If you must use a plate please purchase one that can be opened and closed from operator position as you will not be mulching anything with a block-off plate.

If you actually wish to mulch, please purchase the Scag Hurricane System; install the baffles but do not install the Hurricane Plates which attach to the underside of the deck; you will of course attach the block-off plate. Also, please substitute the serrated Eliminator Blades that come with the kit with offset or "wavy" non serrated mulch blades.

I AGREE with Mr. Jack D., your dealer is an idiot!!!

Who cares what it costs! A good mulching system is worth the bucks spent and your product (lawn) will look like it was bagged instead of being a hack job. The bucks spent on it will be returned in short order.
