  • How often to grease fittings?

I have a 36" Exmark Metro with one wheeled skates. I am unsure how often to greese fittings since you can not see the grease to know if it is in need or not. What type of greese is recomended? I am using Super Tech Standard Lithium grease currently. Should I use Marine grease to help with wash out or not. I see that Slick 50 also makes grease. Does anyone know if it is worth using?

    Thanks!

You should be using a #2 grease, #1 flows easier so it won't stay as well in sleeve bushings like on the castors. I don't know what the supertech is. If it is a NLGI #2 you're fine.

The manual (2000) says one to two pumps daily for caster wheel bearings, caster pivots, drive wheels, and the drive wheel idler arm.

One to two pumps weekly for the brake levers(by wheel), trans output shaft coupler , cutter deck idler pivots.

To initially fill them all it is:
    caster wheel bearings 12
    caster pivots 2
    drive wheels 18
    drive wheel idler arm 2
    brake lever2
    trans output shaft coupler 2
    cutter deck idler pivot 2

I would grease them after any water exposure also

Your manual for the mower should have a maintance log in it, or mine does anyway. If not, you can always call your dealer and they will be more than happy to inform you.

I grease every morning and if it's a full day of mowing I'll grease again after lunch grease is cheap. Transmissions, Spindles, Bearings, Downtime...those things are not cheap. Little bit of preventative maintenance never hurt anything.

How long does it take to grease your entire machine? 5 minutes? How long does it take for your dealer to replace a spindle or bearing or a transmission after it burned up? It's worth it in my opinion everyone has there opinions...Especially in the heat we have had up here in the Northeast recently everything is running hotter I check my oil several times a day just to be on the safe side.
