  • Fliers???

I have seen a few posts about fliers on here, but I am wondering what is the best way to distribute them? I don't really want to go door to door and I know I can't leave them in the mailboxes. I do realize it is late in the season but I am just looking to make a little extra money and if things turn out right, maybe turn it into something full time next summer. I mainly just want to mow and possibly mulch or trim bushes as well. I have 4 years landscaping experience and I am hoping I can remember enough to help along the way. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you just can't go door to door and leave them in the door, try news paper boxes or the box under the mailbox. I only got 2 calls this way on about 100 flyers. When I went door to door, I did about 150 total and got 6 jobs. Good luck.

Our dog got lost not to long ago and we put 350 fliers out in our area only to have the mailman come right behind us and take them out. Thats not all, he called us later that afternoon and told us we had to pay a $.10 fee for each one of he picked up.

Then put them on the door AFTER the mailman goes by.

Or you could tape them to the doors using 3/4" masking tape.

(But be sure to tape them to something other than the wooden door if you can, such as the frame around a storm door, metal door knocker or on the wooden door jamb itself. People can become annoyed if your tape removes finish from their doors or leaves gum on their freshly cleaned glass storm door.)

I did a mailer several years ago with good results, about 20%. A friend of mine with a hardware store let me use his customer addresses. I went through & deleted a few & added some others. I think I used bulk rate postage. It was worth the money & the trouble. I may not be in business today if I had not done this. I got about 60 calls & 22 new customers.

It seems to me now would be a very good time to walk door to door. it is well into the season and people have a real good idea who their gardener is. if he is like many...ie a no show, late, or a bad at his job you may be just the ticket. you might be surprise at how many folk would get someone new if they had the oportunity. I suggest you give them that oportunity.shoal

ps. make the flyer professional looking and staple your card to it. you want to present yourself in the best light possible. and alway give the customer exactly what you say your going to give them. sh.

I would think most people don't want people coming to thier door trying to sell them something. Have you found that this isn't the case? I just don't want to make anyone mad right off the bat.

Do you have any good suggestions for a nice flier besides the ones already posted?

Also, how should I approach people about letting me do their work on a weekly basis? Is this something that they will bring up or should I ask about it or try to give them a deal if they let me do it?

                      Hi coop,

If you don't like flyers, why not make door hangers? I think it is a good idea to meet people as you hand them out. They may have a question you can answer them on the spot. It's a great way to sell yourself and your company.

Try your local groceries shop. It's been working great for me so far in local Giant Eagle. They have a board where people can leave their adds. Get ready for all kinds of calls but it depends what you put on your flyer. good luck!
