  • Startup Equipment

I'm about to start a new lawn business in North Texas. There's a local Husqvarna dealer about a mile from me and I just got a startup package quote from him.

    48" 21Hp ZTR
21" 7Hp Push Conversion (not commercial but converted w/ steel wheels + heavy duty blade)
    326Lx Trimmer
    326Ex Stick Edger
    145 BT Blower

I plan on starting out with a few residential jobs to end this season and going full steam next season. There is a ton of new home growth in my area. All size lots, small to 1 or 2 acres.

I'm considering the 48" ZTR because there are a lot of 1/2 to 1 acre lots nearby that I think I can capitalize on. The 48" seems to be not too big, not too small. Does this sound like a good start as far as equipment goes? I think he's given me a fair quote and I'm comfortable with the price, I just don't want to buy the equipment only to realize next year that I need something different. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like a nice setup to me. Have you already got a truck and trailer? Are you starting out full time?

I have an F-150 but am still looking for a trailer. I'm going to start out on the weekends this year and go full-time next spring.

I personally wouldnt buy the husqarvna 21" mower. I 'think' they are manufactored for husqarvna by mtd....or some other inferior manufatorer. Even with steel wheels and a heavy duty blade, there are TOO many other parts on it that are light duty. If you do purchase it, plan on it only lasting no more than 2 years.
