  • 36" Scag Z-Cat ZTR vs Wright 36" Sentar

Guys......I am very new to the business, have just 10 accounts in just 1 month. My snapper 21" mower just cant keep up. I have done a ton of research and have narrowed the above mentioned mowers. The Z-Cat from Scag is brand new and only 1 dealer in NJ has it that I know of. I need the 36" due to those damn tiny gates in the development I am cutting. The 36" wright sentar is almost 200 lbs less then the Scag. I like them both alot and just don't know which one to go for.
The Scag is a true small riding mower while the Sentar you can sit or stand. They are both around 5000.00 new. Any help in this endeavor would be truly appreciated as I have learned alot from you guys..........Thanks again...Shab

Are they all reseez? If they are, why would you spend thousands more just to ride on the mower? Unless you have physical challenges, I wouldn't spend that much. Remember you're in the business to put money in YOUR pocket not scag or wright's. Save your money, get a 36" wb. Profitablility is the name of game.

This is a part-time thing for now for me. I have a full time job and in the next few years I'm looking to retire. I actually enjoy cutting and edging lawns. In fact, the reason I started this business was because of all the compliments on my own yard.

I know what your saying as far the the WBM, but I'm at the age and time just won't permit me to cut these lawns after my full time job. I have been trying to use my 21" just alot of work. I figure a rider even though they are expensive would just all around be much easier on me.

Hopefully in the next 5 years Ill be retired and I can hire some people, but for now I am doing all the work myself. I actually enjoy making peoples yards look nice and look forward to spending more time cutting grass :-)

I like the Sentars but they have one problem, you can't control the deck while cutting.

Sometimes you need to lift the deck to keep from scalping or dragging a edge.

You can' do that with a Sentar.

A good Toro Hydro W/B might even better way to go.

For $2300 you could buy a Exmark 36" gear drive WB.....add a sulky to it for under $300. Thats a total of $2600. If your new to the business then I would suggest taking the above route. If you have money to burn Id buy the wright.

Thanks for all the posts guys. The new Sentar you CAN actually adjust the height of the cut while on the fly. You dont even have to stop the machine which I thought was a big plus. I am still leaning towards the riders to my age and all.

I just came across a great deal maybe you guys can help me out. A firend of mines brother is a huge landscaper up North and he has a 48" Scag ZTR for sale. Its a 2002 for $2500.oo Should I grab it depending on the hours and shape its in of course?
