  • Getting started

    Hello everyone,
I am interested in starting my own lawn business and need some help getting started. Are there programs that can financially assist someone in my position. I just bought a new house and probably can't take out an equity loan on my house. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

This Is My Second Year P/t. When I Started I Was Like You. Since I Was By My Self And Still Am I Bought What I Needed Not Necessarily What I Wanted. Sure My Effeciency Could Be A Little Better But I Am Banking The Money To Pay Cash For Good Commercial Mowers For Better Effeciency When I Put Someone To Work. All My Trimmers, Edgers , Blower, Clippers Are Commercial Stihl. Couldn't Afford The Price At The Time For Mower. (see Thread Entitled 48" Walk Behinds I Posted Today.) Unfortuanately The Only Program I Know Of And Found Without A Loan Was Called Self-subsidization. It Works And You Feel Good When Those Nice Purchases Happen. Just Do Good Work!!! Good Luck.

i use exmark and echo products. check your local dealer for dealer support or product support. i know exmark has financing available. other than that most banks will give you a business credit card after you open a checking account. i use bank of america and they gave me a 10 grand limit and since have raised it to 25. you own a house that should help you with your credit. also equity comes around pretty fast on a house.

Before you start you should read this forum. This is the greatest source of info what you can get and its for free! So read it a lot and you will find what you looking for!!!

Before you start buying "stuff", don't forget about marketing, how you wanna get above your competition, business only cell phone and P.O. Box adr and business cards...and I suggest to have some hands on experience. If you start thinking about "stuff" you can go two ways. You can buy all (mower, blower, trimmer,...) in home depot. It's cheap, not commercial quality, but for few lawns per week, what the heck...The second way is to buy all your equipment commercial from the beggining. This cost you more money to start but in the long run is more reliable, save you time and aggravation to repair the cheap stuff and also last longer.

And now how to finance all this? I've decided to take the second approach. So I bought commercial and recommended stuff from this forum and was very careful to choose the right dealer. One "toy" in a time before season started. Buy it and pay it off. Also check out ebay, you can find great deals on it.

One toy in a time, that's how I did it. With little money in my packet, with mortgage on my neck, with stay home wife and my sweet little daughter. And the good news is I LOVE IT. As hard as it gets sometimes I have no regrets what so ever. Good luck!

Bullcrap......I went from a Sears pushmower, a radio flyer wagon to hual my weedeater and broom, and 2 customers to over $20k of equipment and 100 customers within 4 years. Best of all I never incurred any debt along the way. I strictly paid cash.

Now if you think you can go from nothing to everything within one year, then yes, you'll need mucho dinero.
