I'm assuming you are meaning about operating a fly-by-night clean-up business in Alabama??? You ought to volunteer instead of benefiting financially from a national disaster. Leave the unethics to the scrubs.

Construction companys are going to be big there for atleast the next five years. All these new homes/buildings will need landscapes. I have thought about taking the boys down there this winter and see what happens???

I own a yamaha 4 wheeler and they called me last week and asked if I wanted to work down there to help with the cleanup. Offered $18 per hour for atleast the next 3 months. Tempting but told them I couldnt go down there.

we went thru the clean-ups last year in the hurricanes. 18.00 an hour would not hack it.. if you want to work contact your state agency that hands out the contract for debris removal. get licensed and have you equipment ready to work. the 3 man crews here were making over 1,000.00 a day for about 5 weeks, you better be young, strong and can sleep in your truck with no shower for days on end.....

we cut trees off houses for five days and did over 10,000.00 in paid work and another 15,000 in free work. money can be made. it is not as one said taking advantage of a "national disaster". that 10 billion dollars has to go somewhere.

Also don't forget the loyalty you owe to your customers. you know how it feels when they jump ship to save a dollar. our busines is to, make money, to serve our customers needs and to build relationships with them.
Now that being said If a natural disaster hit my area and I could make money by creating another crew I would do it . that is good business. shoal

FEMA was paying crews $1200 a week here last year for yard waste removal (not construction... Just yard waste). We had at least 100 out of state LS running around with high sided trailers with FEMA tags on them. My partner was talking about wanting to go up there to make some money on clean up, but I wouldn't... There will be too high a risk of dying from some disease for a long time. Besides... with as much damage and debris as that they will probably be only hiring larger construction and demolition contractors.

No it was $1200 a week... Like I said though. It was strictly yard waste pick up. Not actual clean up. All they had to do was pick up whatever residents piled up at the street to take up the slack of the regular lawn waste. I imagine the people going to the gulf coast will be getting quite a bit more. As mentioned above the people in south FL were getting almost that per day, but they had actual clean up to do.
