Alrite, so its september. This upcoming season will be my 3rd year with a lawn service. But, i only have 9 clients. I use a 21'' push, and its just getting old. I want to get a larger mower ( Q36 SD) and a trailer. I'v got the cash, so thats no problem. My brother, who owns a business, says that i am an idiot for wanting to get such equipment with only 9 clients. HE says i should wait until i have more for sure instead of buying the equipment now. I need help guys. Any solutions/ideas?

He makes sense IF you only want 9 clients forever. But if you plan on getting more clients, then yes, get the bigger mower.

The question that strikes me is why you only have 9 clients after 3 years. Is that by choice? Or is it because you only have the 21" mower? Or something else?

yeah, that would be due to the competition in my area and the 21'' i use. it's pretty sad when im mowing next door to some guys flying around on Wright's.

Sounds to me like you haven't done your research and Advertisement. I am not knockin you, but it is good to hear the truth. I am also a newbie, this is my first season, but I had up to 56 clients at one time. And this is by myself! Granted I had the equipment, but I got out and put those flyers out and told everyone I knew and even ones that I didn't that I had a lawn service. You have to do the same! Get that equipment! If you put half as much into advertising as you did in pushing the 21", then you will get those clients. Go to www.lawnprosoftware.com and check them out! I love the software and all the great info that he gave me. It is only $54!! Check it out

I believe you have to put things into perspective. A 21" mower will in fact give a better cut than a 72" mower. Maybe you are just in the wrong Market(neighborhood). You see a 21" as a inferior mower and I see it as a superior cutting machine. Use want you got and find a Market where the lawns are smaller and the clientele more choosy about the quality of the cut. If you have Lemons made Lemonade.

BTW look at some of the posts here by Jack D. once you get passed the fact Jack D. is a great kidder, you may see he is a big fan of the pro line 21" mower. Jack D. found a market for them and does well.
