  • Equipment pricing question

Hello all, I am a newbee and really considering going into the lawn care profession. I have just returned from my first pricing run and the numbers are as follows:

    1. Scag Cub, 48" cut, 19 HP Kaw $5999.00
    2. Stihl Back Pack Blower 399.95
    3. Stihl Trimmer 25.4cc 289.95
    4. Stilhl Edger 319.95

    Total w/tax $7,499.47

I already have the truck and a trailer (both of which are paid for). Are these reasonable prices and is there anything that I have forgotten other than eye and ear protection? Looking mostly just to cut and maybe trim hedges.

I am assuming you already have a license and insurance. Here are a few other things I use on a regular basis.

    Hedge Trimmer
    Rake
    Shovels
Pruning (Shears, Loppers, hand saw, perhaps a pole pruner)
    Other hand tools
    Racks for the Trailer
    Tie downs for the Equipment
    Uniforms (T-shirst or Polo shirts)
    Landscaping Boots
    Magnetic Signs
Locks to keep equipment locked up while on site

This is the end of my first year.
First I would really think of going with a 52" or 60" deck. I have a 48" ztr but the deck dosn't sit outside the wheels much and makes it harder to mow around landscape. Next, figure in a trimmer rack, backpack rack.... a bagger for the ztr is nice for fall clean ups and from time to time on your thickest lawns. How about a small trim mower, and lastly I would buy a second trimmer. Back ups are very nessisary. A second backpack would be good too. Just my two cents. I hope it helps.

Thanks, there were a few things that I hadn't thought about. Now I can prepare a lot better for my second price run.

I second have the racks to lock the trimmers and blowers up keeps them from being stolen and banged around.

Also have a second trimmer is very hand in case you flood one you can just grab the back up and keep going otherwise your waiting 5-10min.
