how to start a lawn mowing business?

I am just clueless as to what to do. I have read previous posts so that has broaden my knowledge a little. I have a riding lawnmower, pushmower and weedtrimmer, is this a good start?. I want to start the business for the upcoming season. What can I do during the winter to help get my business up and running? Do I need anymore equipment? any tips would be great, thanks for any replies.

Welcome ...I have learned alot on here just by reading and more reading..there countless post on your question. I would start with a search of the forum...and by the way .... do not forget insurance,a license a tax I.D #..these are MUST haves if you want a "real" business ...Do you have a truck and/or trailer ? but as far as equipment goes you might need a little more but I started just like you but there are some Pro's on here who know alottttt more then me ..so just hang tight and read and if you have a question ask it..Good luck

I went to Tennessee once and all I saw was rocks. I there any grass? Then I went to Lookout MT. & they wanted me to ride that incline railway to the top. I looked it over a little & decided I was not about to ride some old railcar up a mountain. If a gear broke on that thing it wouldn't stop til it got to Macon or Jacksonville.

Oh about getting started, you'll also need an edger, blower, hedge trimmer sooner or later, some customers, and a mindset that you'll tackle anything that comes along. As you build your customer base you can turn down some of the "oddball" bulls...t jobs. Always finish what you start & ALWAYS do what you tell the customer you'll do. What part of Tenn are you in? Didn't those Ga Dawgs open up can of whip-a$$ last week?
