If you are planning to just mow grass, then there is very little requirements that you must meet. I would suggest visiting the city clerks office and doing a little research on the name you are planning on using. If available, you should aquire an assumed named certificate (ie: DBA, Doing Business As). You will need this in order to open a commercial checking account. You will also need to register with the Texas Comptrollers office for a sales tax certificate. Legally, the Texas state sales tax certificate is the only legal requirement you'll need.

There are some additional things that you may want to consider aquiring:

1). State pesticide license through the Texas Department of Agriculture. Needed if you are planning on applying any herbicides or pesticides. That includes things such as weed and feeds.

2). Texas Irrigators license through Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Needed if you are planning on installing sprinklers systems in Texas.

3). Commercial general liability insurance. Usually required when bidding on commercial accounts. I would highly recommend getting this. You can get it as cheap as $400 a year.

Hope this helps and good luck. You're just right down the road.

... and you'll need the Nursery/Floral Certificate to obtain your pesticide license. That'll add another $75.
