Maybe all Echo's were not created equal?
I have an old Echo SRM 2200 that I bought back in the 80's, I used it for almost 5 years daily & I still use it on my own lawn now.
I'm sure Stihl, RedMax, Shindaiwa, Green Machine & a few others make good products. I had a Killer Green Machine blower when I first started in the business & it ran real good for many years. Redmax has some killer equipment. The main reason for Echo where I'm at is you can easily get parts for them.
The RedMax & Green Machines that I've ran a short period of time had a lot of power. The problem was Redmax & Green Machine dealers come & go around here. Echo has been here the whole time. At the moment I'm the only Echo dealer in a town of over 250,000 people... Echo has discontinued all other dealers in past 5 to 6 except us. (I love it)
I've read a lot of good things about Shindaiwa, but I've only seen a few units in my day. No dealers around here? I've thought about becoming one myself!
As far as I know the Echo is the only true 2 cycle left on the market that meets the EPA standards. I don't know that much about other OEM's but I've heard quite a few Stihl owners complain that the newer units use quite a bit more gas than the echo's but it's still hear say too?
This is why you are starting to see more & more 4 cycle trimmers on the market. We have a customer that uses Honda 4 cycle trimmers, they buy at least 2 at the time from us & they love them! Yes they are a few pounds heavier, but quieter & less vibration! I wouldn't mind trying one...
From past experiences with ECHO when my Antique SRM2200 dies I will walk over to the wall & probably grab me a SRM310 or SRM340 most likely and that should last me till I kick the bucket!
PS: I think the late SRM2501 was one of the best trimmers ever made back in those days. It was the crews choice, the SRM2200 was lighter & the bosses personal choice due to weight. My rotary cuffs couldn't handle the SRM2501 but a few days at a time after a few months of daily usage!GrassMaster, LSF Administrator!

Over the years, I would buy the latest powerful echo blowers. This year I sold all 4 cheaply and upgraded to 3 new 751s. My crew luv them and I luv them.
The ones made with the small air filter were crap and wore out faster. The ones with the larger air filter last and last and last...
I get Stilh saws, and the long reach hedge trimmers. The small Stilh hedge trimmers are better built than Echo and are more comfortable because of the handle turning. I get saws and long reach hedge trimmers, string trimmers, and blowers from Echo. The blowers last longer than Stilh. My old BR400s would be into the dealer so much that I was the "silent partner".
Echo also makes a killer earth auger.

Please note that there is a difference between Echo models purchased at Home Depot and those purchased at fine establishments such as Grassmaster's Mower Repairs and All Night Body Rubs.
Most of the Top End Commercial Echo products are not stocked at Home Cheapo.
