    Time IS money; however, it depends upon what price tag you put on that value. Then it depends how you bid that value.

    Judging from where the rest of this thread has gone, that's all I'm gonna say;

    Except that my standards prevent me from offering work that would be sub standard.

      I'm glad Bobby's here - this sure is a lot more interesting than a Jack D thread.

          it seems as though lorenzo, is the only one smelling the coffee. we charge "per season". never again, in my life, will i use the words "per week". i do not cut high wet grass for the price of a "mowing." no "per cut" billing EVER. when god let's me work the water, then we'll talk about "per cut" pricing. that's for starters. secondly, i have 2 months worth of fees safely tucked away, BEFORE i ever spin the blades. grasscutting here starts 2nd to 3rd week in april, i get a check 3/1, 4/1, and 5/1. by may first, i've laid, usually, 2 cuts on the property, and have recieved already THREE CHECKS!. have any of you nimrods ever taken into account the amount of money YOU ARE LOSING by extending credit, without finance charges? most of you bill like this: cut april 17th, and 24th. send bill for same. cut may 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th, all the while waiting for that measly 2 mowing bill you sent out, and allowing them to rack up 7 service calls, WITHOUT EVER giving you a nickle! let's say you have 100 clients, and they average $30 per service, and you bill them all like this. you now have $21,000 out on the street, that you GAVE AWAY , free of finance charges. it gets better.....you, have been paying the frieght the whole time, with your own (or should be own) money. now, you did send a bill on may 1st, and probly want it back within 30 days. you know damn well that don't always happen, now, even if only 20 of them drag thier feet, and u don't cancel, you are in deeper, and deeper, and deeper........you are losing a FORTUNE, by extending credit, without finance charges.

              sir, please look a bit more carefully at the events of the last few days. i'm sure if you do, you will note, that i came here in peace, seeking only companionship, and a desire to share my lifes work. it was the members here, who so heartlessly attacked me, unprovoked. i will not share my treasures, until all who insulted me, have apologized.

                  So on 4/1 Bob is already has two payments in the bank. He is cash rich big time. Wake up and smell the cash flow.
                  Uh Mr. Stone, I start all my even billing on March 01 as well. But I am mostly commercial. This is not a "new" idea. Nor does it matter to me if I bill like that or not. I am "cash rich" prior to bidding these accounts because I make sure I have a certain percent of each account in the bank prior to starting. Cash flow should never be an issue. You shouldn't need 2 months of a contract paid to you just so you can do the contract.

                    KLC the way Bobby is getting treated by some members isn't unprovoked. It comes from another forum.

                    He does start some good conversation to get you thinking, but I agree with you.

                    Thats just the way he is......just like Jauque D is the way he is.

                    What you may learn from his threads doesn't necessarily come from his keyboard.

                        the answer is no. why? because you should know your operating cost and profit margin and the numbers should be the same with every customer. this type of customer is a ship jumper and is more problems than they are worth. If you could come down you should have done that in your bid but I guarantee you that what ever you came up with it would be met with " I can't afford that can you come down" they live their entire life like this. I'd bet that you'd have problem in collecting your bill. let a scrub have them. it'll be good schooling for them. shoal

                          Offer him 12 equal monthly payments at $74.20.....which is the same total $$$....or maybe make it $80 per month make yourself a little more than originally quoted. Just like financing a care for 5 years instead of 6 years...make payments afoordable.

                            shoal, you , and the majority here, are completely clueless. ok, let me ask you this: do you ONLY do full service? do you offer ONLY full property maint= mowing, ferts, scu, fall cu, weeding, plant feed, shrub trimming, etc, etc, or do you LET THEM DECIDE if they only want mowing? or only want mowing, and shrub trimming? tell me do you offer ONLY FULL PROPERTY MAINT?

                              I dont charge by week or cut. I charge per month for 12 months. If they wont do a 12 month contract I will not do the job. Thats it. I played with the ideal to place ad in local phone book this year. At the last moment I placed the ad in the book. I'm glad I did, I've gotten 6 calls sense the book came out last week I've gotten 4 out six calls they are all on 12 month contract. ( there very large commercial jobs) one job is over 600.00 month. The first job I got a contract on payed for the ad for the year. So rest of the job's I get will from the ad will be 100% profit. So if your thinking about phone book ad next year I would say try it.
