You probably know this...
They probably have what they call a suggested list price for that trailer. If a dealer of theirs was to see the company selling them below suggested list price, that particular dealer would probably quit selling their products because the manufacture was caught selling below list price. That cuts into every bodies profit margin. The manufacture must adhere to their suggested list or no Biz. Plain & Simple.
I know if I ran across that with a product I sell & the manufacture was selling it for less than suggested list, I would pitch a natural born fit.
If the dealer wants to sell for less than suggested list price that's OK, the dealer is only cutting into his profits. I very seldom sell for below suggested list or promotional price, because when I do that I'm taking money off of my plate & I eat a lot!
I have mowers that I sell at suggested list price of $569.99, I lose a lot of sales because I will not sell it for $560.00 plus tax, that's only $10 off or I will not sell it for $569.99 including tax.
If I started discounting I could increase sales by 20% to 30% right off the bat, I would make more money.... Then later every dealer in the area is selling for $10 off to compete with me, so then I got to come off more or I lose sales. Then there's no profit to put on my plate.
Then you got the dealers that know you're from out of town. If they discount to you it's because they are planning on never seeing you again. So it's an easy sell to them. They not worried that you'll be back complaining or wanting warranty work. Warranty Work does not pay much at all.
Then you got the dealers like me, BTW we're a no BS dealer, if Mr. Cheapskate looked at my equipment & he goes some where else & buys it saving a few bucks because he went out of town to save a few bucks, first it's very unlikely we'll do his warranty work to start with. But if he needs repair or service we'll do it with a smile on our face but he pays a lot more for the work. If he don't like it let him take it back to where he bought it from. It's fine with me & then how much money has he saved?
I can't tell you how many times a year I tell them that if you bought it off e-bay send it back to them & let them work on it. It'll never happen.
Dealers that sell products on line because they know that 99 out of a 100 will never be seen or heard from again. When you buy on line you look at it & buy it because it's cheaper. You input your charge card info then the next morning at 9:00AM your money is automatically deposited into the dealers checking account. Then they ship it & end of story.
Now I have no problems at all buying from the Manufacture on line, when dealing direct with most all manufactures they'll most certainly will take care of you.
PS: I own & operate a Outdoor Power Equipment Dealership selling Echo, Snapper & Honda... I have no desire to sell here on this forum or anywhere else on line even if I could get full list price. We sell service & we sell it serviced, that's our motto. We do not sell boxed products, we are a different company, we base our success on service. All of our equipment is put together, service out & we run it, test it & check it out before the customer ever gets to run it. It's worked that way since 1903 & will continue that way!
