  • could this idea possibly work?

i have a superior mind, and it's always working overtime. i thought this one up, and am at a standstill on how to market it, and the legalities of it. ok, from the beginning: the lawns in my area are generally stamps that measure 2.5k, 3.5k. now, for people who do thier own fertilizing, they go to the depot, and pick up a bag of ferts, the 4 step program, all mapped out for them. the smallest bag they can purchase, covers 5k. that means they apply most of the bag, then they are left over with a couple pounds, that is not enough to use for next season, so they usually store it, then trash it. WHAT IF: i started a traveling fert distribution business, where i went directly to thier home, measured the property, and sold them a 4 step program, exactly as much as they needed? example: say the rate of step #1 is 4lbs per k, they have 2800 sq ft, they would need 11.2 lbs of material, i'd sell them an even 12 lbs (overlapping, off target, etc). this would eliminate for them the inconvenience of disposal or storage, and purchasing extra product they don't need. any input?

Brilliant idea. I'll have to look at this for my area. I could see some real profit potential. Someday these people will thank you for such creative input and the profits they reap.

no, it doesn't have to be less, this i know for a fact. i'll tell you why: in years past, during the winter months, i would distribute flyers for the sale of ice melt products. i was buying the product for $10.50 for a 50 lb bag, and marketting this product as a convenience-" ice melt products, delivered right to your door. immediate response, you call, we deliver." now, i was re-selling it for $25 a bag. i mostly targetted businesses. on days leading up to a snowstorm, the phone rang non stop with orders of 1, 2, 5, 7 bags per stop. i could sell 30-40 bags a day easy. this price was more than double what they could have purchased it for at the store, but, they bought from me cus it was convenient

What, are you kidding?!!!! I agree w/ Bobby, you don't sell for less. In this info age where people want to pay for free info rather than go to the sources of free info, Bobby would be cashing in on a great service! Just imagine if all Joe Lazy Blow had to do was sign off on the service and charge his credit card; afterall, that's why mobile services for oil change, windshield replacement, etc, does so well in urban areas.

If you did that in WA State Bobby, you would need to get a dealers license and be subject to review by the State Weights and Measure Commision, which is run by the State Patrol and Dept of Ag. You would also want to consult with a trademark/patent attorney.

i like the idea but why would you want to combine it with your lawn care servcie.. i mean.. shouldn't you be marketing the 4 step program as a complete package including installation... your idea is just what everyone else already does but you are cutting the corner on installation and loosing some good money right there.. it's all in your ablity to sell.. you have to make the customer "buy" you.. make them think that if they don't buy you and your service that there lawn will never meet its potential by far..

Bobby is looking at the big picture. Some of these old farts just ain't gonna let Booby do it because they THINK they can do it better. If Bobcat comes to my house I ain't letting him put it out, have you seen him in person - kinda of goofy looking and quite ugly-no offense Bobby-I just speak the truth. They say he has no luck with the ladies, one day I will take him under my wing and teach him how to score with the chicks. He got threw out of Barnes and Noble the other day for taking the wrappers of the porn mags. They dragged him out of the restroom with his pants to his ankles-quite funny. He was quite embarrassed about this, but at least he did not get arrested for indecent exposure. The police report said his belly lopped over so far nobody could see anything. He has got to lay off the beer. Here is a recent photo - http://community.webshots.com/myphot...ecurity=PZsWUP
