  • will f-150 pull this

So far we have a 48" walk behind, 32" walk behind, and we plan on getting a ZTR ( either a 48" or 52"). We didn't make up our minds on what trailer size were getting but I know its going to be a closed. first Q. will a 14' fit all this and will the f150 have trouble pulling these.

A 14' trailer with all that will be a very tight fit. A 16' trailer would be a better choice. Would this truck sport a v-8? It will pull it, but a 3/4 ton would be my preferred choice. If nothing else, stiffen up the rear leaf springs on your truck.

Oh ya forgot to add .... My truck pulls all that ... great around town ... sluggish on the highway but it gets the job done... if it had a v8 should be no problem at all ... if the truck is sitting down add a leaf spring

it's a v8, no problem pulling the trailer then. K width of trailer is the problem now, I now guys around her that make 6.5' * 16 trailer should I get that or stick with the 6'. If I have to I'll get a 7',or 8', what do you guy think, thanx.

There is no way that gear will fit on a 14fter. I have a 54 ztr which sits at the front of the trailer. Behind that is a 36" Farris wb and a 28" toro wb. There is enough room behind that for a 21 toro sp loaded across the trailer.

6.5' is a good width... That's what mine is... You just gotta remember that a 6.5 is actually 8' wide from fender to fender. On some roads you gotta keep an eye on it so it doesn't drift into other lanes. I'm still getting used to mine, but I still hate it when I have to drive in the middle lane, and have to keep an eye on both mirrors to make sure I'm not taking someone's fender off.

If you can swing it get mesh sides, and a side gate/ramp... You will appreciate mesh sides when you have to carry anything like mulch, and the side gate will save you from having to unload mowers to get to the one you need... Especially if you are carrying 3 mowers (been there, done that, and hated it).

I've been solo for twenty years. I'd really recommend getting a side ramp, too. Having a side ramp let's you keep the WB's in the back, taking them on and off as needed, AND allows you to use the Rider (which you put in the side) whenever you want, WITHOUT having to move the WB's in the back.
It can easliy save you 5 minutes a stop. If you do 15/20 stops a day, you're putting an extra $100 or so in your pocket, without working any more time during the day.
I knock out at least 1 extra lawn a day PT, just by switching to my new trailer with a side ramp.
I'd get the 7' side trailer, though. It's much easier to move around, especially if it's enclosed.

Good point Scott brought up... I have trouble stopping mine so you really need a braking system... I have brakes they just need to be repaired so thats on the top of my to do list. I give myself alot of extra stoppin room right now but if sombody ever pulls in front of me before i get it fixed then i will have a problem. Almost missed a st yesterday and tried to stop... didnt happen had to go turn around.

By reading the posts you should know that you need a braking sys. on your trailer if you want to put that much gear on it. At the very least if you figure 500 LBS for the ZRT, 200 each for the other machines + any other tools that you load on it you are looking at TWICE the weight on your trailer than your truck is rated for. What if instead of a st. N. TX missed it was a person stepping onto the road or someone putting on thier brakes suddenly. At the very least if the brakes are slammed on and held tight the weight that your are hauling will push the 150 sideways and jackknife the unit.

And that a 14 footer will not hold that gear. Taking into account that w/ outsde wheelwells you have about 6.5' inside. Already have a 48" wb that could fit on first w/ a 21 sp beside it. Behind that could fit the 32" w/ room for a dethatcher in spring/ leaf blower in fall beside it. Considering that each of the 48" and the 32" are about 5' in lenght you only have 4 feet of usable space. No ZTR is going to fit in 4'.

But not to dispair. Where I am a 16 footer MUST have dual wheels. And a dual wheel MUST have a braking sys. Either elec. or mech. It is worth what it costs just for my own piece of mind. Not to mention insurance costs.

Just wondering do you have ABS on your 150?

I foresee a suspension problem. I would make arrangments for HD springs. While they had it up working on that i would go ahead and have them install a tranny cooler also. It'll make your day much easier.

Your brakes will be the first to go... then the rest of the truck will slowly die. I've been there, and won't make that mistake again.

                              1/2 ton V8

A 1/2 ton V8 will do the job, get HD Springs or air shocks as mentioned, spring loaded hitch to save that transmission - U Joints & make sure the trailer has good enough brakes that the trailer helps stop the truck.

In fact I would go with HD Overload Springs. I had air shocks & after 15 years they started leaking.

They make V6's now that have as much or more power than that little V8 I had.

I will not pull a larger loaded trailer if it can't help stop the truck. It's too much of a liability pulling a load that a truck can't stop if the trailer brakes are not working properly.

I had a 84 chevy 1/2 ton with the little V8 & it pulled a 1 ton 16' trailer with 1sometimes 2 Yazoo's that weighed in at 1,800 .lbs each not including grass catcher or other equipment. I did it for over 4 years with that Truck & still drive it today every once in a while! No transmission problems & original motor mounts. Replacing motor or transmission mounts is sure sign of driving truck too hard while pulling.

A lot of it has to do with the way you pull the trailer. You got to give the truck time to pull the trailer, flooring the gas pedal just causes a lot of excessive & premature unnecessary damage.

Hey if you can afford it, a 3/4 ton would be nice!
