  • Any Tips/ Advice that you guys could give me.

Hey, I'm 18 and I live in Maine, I have been wanting to start a Lawn Care business for a while now, I dont know why but I like mowing lawns. Well I've come up with a name, Mainely Lawncare. Now I'm just wondering how I should go about doing everything.

Any tips or advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Take some master gardener classes. Learn as much as you can. Invest in the best equipment and know your operating costs.

I'm not going to be able to go out and buy a bunch of brand new equipment, I'm gonna buy a new push mower, weed wacker, and a leaf blower though.

Once I actaully start making money I'm going to invest in a zero turn rider.

Take some business courses over everything else. Just doing that will put you years ahead of your competition.

hey man, i 20 years old now but i started my business when i was 17. i had
$ 700 to start with and a truck. i know alot guys will disagree but i started with craftsman equiptment knowing that i need to get better equiptment. I now have all the equiptment i need. If you buy used, take someone who know the business with you, they will know what problems to look for. Just stay within your limits, this is a great business to make some money. If you plan on goin to college, The business courses help also, i am majoring in education and minoring in business. Good luck to you

i would say buy some basic equipment that will get you going, grow with your business as the years come.
i started out with nothing and i was jealous when i saw these guys with all these mowers and such and 2 years later i have nice equipment and i'm proud of the way i started out. i learned by cutting acre plus lots with a honda 21" (home owner) makes you appreciate commercial equipment.

              good luck,

To make the highest profit you must invest in (fast) commercial equipment.

But I suggest that you start off with what you have or can get. Most yards can be pushed with a good self-propelled 21" mower in less than 30 minutes. Add another 10-15 minutes to trim and blow, and you have just made $25. Sure it will be much harder work compared to a commercial Z, but you are young and full of vinegar.

Save your bucks and in time you will be able to pay cash for faster equipment, do more yards per day and make more per hour. In no time you'll be able to buy the biggest and best equipment for your area's needs and you will be making $50-$60/hour. Then you can hire a helper for $10/hr and do 25-35 residental properties a day.
                    The area's Low Price Leader

Always invest in the best equipment! Don't waste your money on throw away machines. If you can't afford the best work two jobs and save your money until you can. As an added benefit you won't look like a scrub. But I'm no "engineer". If I was... I wouldn't be mowing lawns.

That's a fact. Unless you're out of work at 10 in the morning.
