  • Photo Challenge #4 ---WINNERS---

What a photo challenge! The subject? Signs of Spring! You can go to the link below to see who took which photo.

Well, we only had 11 photo entries this time around. The winner won big by 5 points! Clearly a great photo.

The top 5 winners should be oh so proud:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

#1. Along the Path to Heaven - Woody

    #2. First Bloom - Mike J

    #3 (tie). Rainy Day Friend - jgc8fan

    #3 (tie). Please Not Again - Scaper-S2k

#5. Into Each Life - Hardboiled

You can look at all the photos, showing who took them, at the link below: It also shows the winning order of the other photos!

We can now look forward to Woody coming up with the subject for the next photo challenge. That should happen within the next 2 weeks (hopefully). Can't wait to see what he will come up with.

Use THIS thread to congratulate the winner, and/or to discuss your photo or any of the other photos.

          Woody,,

what's the next subject? Let's get this thing going. I'm gonna place in the top 3 one of these times and yes I'm taking over 150 pics on this one and only selecting 1, like my talented friend Jeff.

Congratulations Woody! Glad you got in on it. All the pics were nice. I had a hard time choosing this time too.

And as for the frog, isn't that a part of IPM. Frogs eat bugs.

Congrats Woody... Great bunch of pics all around... Quality is better than quantity.

I can't believe people gave me crap about the frog... Especially Scott being from FL... I was good though... Kept my mouth shut until the end.

If anyone wants my excuse... I was waiting for a good spring shower... It happened on a day off luckily, and I spent a good while shooting lots of different things, and nothing came out decent... Driving home in the rain I noticed that frogs were literally covering the road and I was swerving all over trying not to hit too many. Don't know if it's like that everywhere, but in FL when it rains they are everywhere hence a "sign of spring". They come out to get warm on the asphalt... I thought that one was dead, but luckily I looked again. Also... I found a new excuse for the green industry thing (my original was that "it's green isn't it")... It's nature's PCO, and he doesn't even need a license. I was watching a documentary about how (New Zealand I think) imported a bunch of frogs to control pests and they are now getting out of control. They will eat anything (On the doc they showed a bullfrog eat a mouse... Never seen anything like it.) BTW... I did chuck him into the yard after the pic... Didn't think a now famous model should wind up squished by a car.

There... I been holding that in since Erich told me to keep my trap shut.

Woody!!! Woody!!! Woody!!! Woody!!! Woody!!! Woody!!!

He's probably already got a subject, and knowing him it's gonna make this one look like a cake walk. LOL

Finally, with Woody winning this one we'll have a new and fresh subject to focus on. NEW BLOOD IN DA HOUSE!

Congrats Woody.....Scott I do have a pic of the peony with bugs(ants) thought that one was better. Erich the grass really wasn't as tall as it looked, I was trying to get a shot looking through the grass but I couldn't get set right. I actually sat the camera on the ground. Neighbors think Im need to be in the nuthouse, laying on the ground out in the front of my house. Thats one thing I like about the FZ30 the flip screen. I can take pics like that without looking too much of a fool.

BTW I talked to a guy taking pics at a softball tourny this past weekend. He has an older Cannon(I think its one of the Marks). He just does it as a hobby, said it was pretty profitable hobby. Hes made over 6k just this season selling 5x7 for 3 bucks a pop to moms.(he gets his prints at Wally world for .19each) At his hometown tournies he sets up a table and his wife sells them.

Thanks for all of the kudos guys!

Here are the rest of my pictures.

If one is astute, they will notice that I started taking pictures at 1:24:02, and finished taking pictures at 1:27:40 on the same day. A grand total of 5 pictures, captured in a total of 3 minutes and 38 seconds. All in my back yard, on a dated Nikon Coolpix 990 (talk about waiting for it to load the pic onto the memory card). Oh, I forgot to mention... All resized on "The Gimp" running under SuSE Linux 64 bit, version 10. I DID NOT SHARPEN ANY OF THEM. It is a straight size reduction, and some quality reduction done as well when saving it as a jpg (at 80%+ of the resized quality).

Photography is in the eye of the photographer, not in snapping off 150+ pictures and then blindly selecting one, like, errr, SOMEONE we know does! LOL! I just had to get my digs in on that one!!!

Scott: You act as if I should make it something like "a boxspring in a neighbor's yard" or something. Jeesh, gimme a chance to think something up! LOL!

Woody, you're killin me! I pour my heart and soul into some of this (well maybe not) and then you just come out of nowhere, win it all and rub in me face? Where's the love in that?

I should stay anonymous with this because you just may make it "the hillbilly lawn", but here goes anyway... I should take a picture of my neighbors yard behind me. A stack of Rover frames, a couple rovers, an MG, a bug, a couple other heaps, about four sheds, wire fencing around the cars (to keep critters out I think, yeah right), and dual spotlights that shine toward my house to supposedly keep the coyotes at bay (they have two scotties, i.e. hot lunch). But the year round icicle lights really do soften it enough that you hardly notice.
