I've seen a person or two around here use the lawnscaping thing, so I wouldn't see why not..I've never looked it up and I'm sure it's not a real word, but it is unique. On a different eariler topic, there are so many A..AA A1 names, because if you advertise in the phone book, most people look at the A's first, and therefore they wanted there name first on the list.

A good company name is important. You have to ask yourself, "self do I want to be known like 200 guys that cut grass or do I want to be different."
If you have no desire to expand, call it something basic with your name it in, helps in cashing checks and so forth. If you have high hopes call it "WBs Land(scape) Management"

Guys , thanks for the feedback....its always good to bounce ideas around. Lots of advice to think about here....all good. I might be overthinking waterboys initial post but hey I like to ponder these things. I'm no marketing expert ....but think about it...crap you've seen and said to yourself...that is dumb and never work...then it does. Thanks Als for the info...have not seen it around here. Q to vets here ...I think
scott and jackD may have partially addressed it. Lets say you want or have a goal of running 3 to 4 small crews 3 or so years down the road....not being content with a tiny operation with 30 lawns and the sidejobs they bring....and there is nothing wrong with that...guess I'm just greedy and want more toys in life. Do you guys think you need to SOUND corporate. By the way I meant nothing negative saying "small" 30 accnts...still way bigger than me. I'm probably getting way ahead of myself...as far as where I'm at...but I have had success and failure looking down the road...thats why your advice is so helpfull. Anyway I'm babbling...must have been that last beer. What about something off the wall for waterboy...does anyone else have any strange...yet successful stories to share regarding names. Again...thanks everyone

Thanks guys. I'm still watching the thread and have been reading alot of the info on this site. So far, the only one I've thought of that sounds ok is Sunrise Outdoor Services and I can put on the trailer what we offer because you always would like to expand. Still looking at enclosed trailers though, after that and the usual business stuff I'm ready, got 98% of the equipment already.

              Thanks again, Waterboy

Does sound good.....seems a little vague....want people to know what you do. Has a good ring...sounds pro....might want to add a bit about your services.....?

Vague is not always bad I would rather a customer called me and asked if I did something, i.e. building a water feature. Rather than they read Mike's Lawn service and just assume I don’t do that. Good call Waterboy it has nice professional sound and is easily marketable, leaves lots of room for expansion.

Wish I'd gone a little vague... After my partner left I don't have too much time for major landscaping, and with C & J Landscapes as a name it's kinda hard to explain to people you are primarily a lawn service, but I'm not about to change it... After almost 3 years I'm finding more people know the name than I ever thought.

Saw a business card the other day.

                        "Two Guys and a Hoe"

Laughed so hard I almost passed out.

Which ever you are , c or j, lose the old partners letter on ALL your business cards, letterheads etc this season. All new customers should know you as your new name.

Next year, slide the new name in. It's a basic name change here. Don't get hung up with your name at this point. Customers will not know it.

Actually... I can be both... I am the "J", but my last name happens to be "C". I thought of changing it to C & J Lawns or something. May later, but I've got a lot of realtor accounts that know me by the business name only, and haven't got a clue who I am.

Yeah, but I can't tell it. Did a bad thing with a name "YEARS" ago. Changed it twice after that.

Remember that those catchy names can be bad too. "Always Green" states the grass will ALWAYS be green. That doesn't always work when you are only cutting grass.
