  • Cooling Vest

I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the cooling vest that supposingly keep you cool in the worst type of heat. I have bought a straw hat, a boonie hat, a cooling type gel bandana over the past week and saw one of the vest on the internet advertised and didn't know if they are any good. Just trying to keep as cool as possible, I'm not in tip top shape for the heat that is just arriving.
    Thanks

I hear ya... It got into the 90s here this week for the first time this year, and will prolly see 100s in the next couple weeks. I think I sweated about 20 gallons today.

Haven't tried any of that stuff... If you do let us know how it works...

...I should say... I bicycle, and use the Coolmax shorts and jerseys, and that stuff seems to work okay... It works by "wicking" the sweat away from your body allowing you to stay dryer, and it also lets more air through at the same time, but the stuff is designed for someone riding a bike, so I'm not sure how it works without the airflow.

Try the under armour or the cool max. You will still sweat, but if you can let some air get to it, it makes you cool. In my full time job, I wear a bullet resistant vest over it and when I get hot I just pull on my vest and flap it a couple of times and it cools me down a couple of degrees. I live on the MS Gulf coast and it is already 95 degrees with 100% humidity. Don't get the cheap stuff though, even after washing it numerous times, the funk stays with it. My under armour does not have that problem.

Damn jgc8, 20 gallons, we gotta find a better cooling system, straw hat/ball cap ain't doing it! Bign I will check out the Cool Max, thanks for the post! For some reason my legs are getting smaller and my gut is staying the same in this heat, that ain't right! lol I really need a rider due to 7 out of the 10 accounts I now have can fit a rider in their backyard. Oh well, have to save up for that one.

Its supposed to get up to 105 this Tuesday here in Central Texas. I have always worn some type of cool max shirts. A lot of companies make them such as Under Armor, Nike, Adidas, North Face etc. I have Under Armor shirts but buy Nike shirts now from their nearby outlet store. They cost me 15.00 per shirt. I like Under Armor but they always seem to be twice as expensive so I now stick with the lower priced Nike shirts. These shirts make a huge difference in your comfort level over a cotton shirt. They absorb your sweat then dry quickly which in turn keeps you dry.

You can wear a cotton shirt over them. I wear kevlar and poly over mine everyday but you can also get the loose fit. If you get the tight fitting ones get a size bigger than you normally would or you might not be able to breath. The Under Armour brand is a little more expensive, but I have a few that have lasted a couple of years.
