  • Double blade setup

Finally decided to give this a try. Would like some input on the way that I have done this.

On my Toro there are saddle type brackets (for lack of a better term) that hold the blade in position and a 9/16 bolt that runs through the middle of the blade with a cupped washer. A 1/4" blade isnt thick enough to drop below the saddle so I placed the washer between the two blades and torqued the snot out of it.

Standard cross type setup and it cut through some really tall dense chit almost perfectly. Seeing that I have the results that I was looking for, anyone care to chime in about how safe or unsafe this setup is without a second cupped washer under the second blade? I am looking to be more effecient without finding out how good my insurance is.

    Thanks!

Are you speaking of the Toro "Blade Stiffener"?

Jack D. tosses those in the trash.

There are a lot of threads here about double blade setups. Dixie Chopper among others is marketing twin blades per spindle now. As far as I know Toro isnt doing it and my dealer didnt seemed too concerned about it with my machine so....

You can learn something about it by using the search function. I guess only time will tell if what I have done is safe.
