  • Jack D. Presents A Basic Primer On How to Start a Backpack Blower

Many of the riff raff are of the mistaken assumption that a BP blower takes longer than a Handheld to start up and use on small jobs.

The corresponding picture illustrates the correct steps to follow when using a BP.

Please note that the BP must be positioned on a flat surface, either truck bed or trailer shelf (NOT a BP Blower Rack).

Grab the 1) Handle of the BP with left hand, lift off the flat surface and pull the 2) Starter Rope with right hand, sling the BP 3) Straps onto back while walking to area to be cleared and then depress 4) Throttle to desired power.

This entire procedure may take 1 second longer than cranking HH but you now have twice the power at your disposal.

    Good Luck.

You should write a book on lawn equipment and its use because it seems like you have a lot of free time. You should get those piaa lights teflon coated so the bugs wont stick.

No one will argue that a most back pack blowers have more power than a hand held blower.

Most of us find that by approaching the job in a more organized manner we don't have a big mess to clean up and a hand held blower is more than required to blow off what little debris we have.

          God Bless

You only left out four steps. Four steps that would be used on a hand held also. And why not start it on the rack? That would eliminate the step of moving it to a flat surface to start it. Oh wait, you use those cheesy trimmer traps - never mind.

Please note that the "flat surface" referred to in Jack D.'s original posting should also be the transport area for the BP. Jack D. does not endorse BP blower racks.

With practice, you will be able to unload and start up a BP just as fast as a HH. Even blowing light debris is faster with twice the power as you need walk less.

Many years ago, Jack D. sunburned his back and was forced to carry a BP in his left hand and control the throttle and tube with the right.

Jack D. is a man of the people.

Just razzin' ya anyway. That had to be awkward for you and your customers watching you. You can confide in us...we won't tell anyone. You really broke out the handheld for a few days, didn't you?

                    Good Point GrassMaster.

To get out a powerful blower and blow the debris and dust in the air where it settles back down on top of cars and the house etc is certainly defeating the purpose of trying to clean up.

                    God Bless

Hand Held Blowers serve no purpose.

This is perhaps one of the most important lessons to learn in the Wurly Burly World of the Green Industry.

Jack D. also strongly encourages the removal of Trimmer Guards.

                      Good Luck.
