  • Quitting Time???

What time do you call it a day?
    At dusk or dinner time?
    Residential lawns.

When I'm done for the day. When everything that is scheduled is complete.
I'm trying to be somebody...I'm not trying to be somebody else

In the South dinner is eaten at noon and supper is eaten in the evening. I would've thought someone from Crawdad Holler would know that.

'round these parts, we take a lunch break around noon, if it ain't too hot.
              Lunch is a small meal.
We work until the work is done, sometimes missing supper.
In this case, cold beer is in order.
Supper is at night, dinner is a fancy meal we have on Sundays and holidays.

So, if you just had a sandwich and chips, you'd call that dinner?

No set 'quit' time. I work till the days work is done.

On hot bi*tch days, like today, I was a wuss and quit at 2PM since nothing urgent had to be done.

The original poster of this thread is from the same state as you...

It gets too hot around here to eat dinner at lunch time.

When I was growing up in the late sixties I lived on a farm that was close enough to town to hear the "fire whistle." At noon and at 5pm they would ring the fire alarm at the fire station in town to let everyone know it was dinner time or quitin' time. Except on thursday afternoon because all the businesses in town were closed on thursday afternoon. They were all open on saturday morning to make up the difference.
