BUY AN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE MOWER, WHEN THERE ARE NEAR EQUALLY QUALITY MOWERSTO CHOOSE FROM @ HALF THE PRICE, BUT SKIMP ON THE finish work tools that really make the job look great... its annoyinmg to see such things.. he prolly low balls big time too- thinks cuz his mower does alot of work very simply that he can be cheap and aid in the dragging down of the industry price standards :/

walker mowers are for high-end use, the owner should charge by this standard

why do more for less, when you can do less for more?

Dunno what he charges for mowing, but I do know for all other work he charges $25 per hour.

BTW, he bought the Walker used w/ 1200 hours for about $3-4k this past spring? -- But he said it's already broken down multiple times.....so.....I dunno.

wow he paid wayyyyyy to much for that. yes walkers can last for 4k+ hours but they need alot of care. if they're not taken care of they die at 1500 hrs or so.

You like? Wait till the other pictures are posted -- he owns the first commercial WB I bought eons ago -- It has to have well over 3000 hours on the unit and he just put $1400 worth of work into it! WHAT?? (I bought it with 600 hours, 2nd owner - now he is the 4th owner).

I junked a 1993 Walker in 2005 and cut my own grass with a 1997 Walker. Both of those were used daily since new in a year round cutting season until I retired in 2005. I sold newer Walkers with the business. I still have a 1999 GHS 42" Walker I would like to sell for $ 2500, However no one bags in Florida any more.

Like any machine, Walkers require maintenance. They give an excellent cut and are perfect for the smaller canal lots in my area because of their maneuverability. True they are slow at 4.5 MPH and that slow ground speed is why they give such a good cut. I did find that because the engine is so low to the ground and enclosed within the frame they run very hot and don't have but around 1500 hours of life before they are tired. I would replace engines at around 1500 hours even if they were still running. Engine replacement was a 45 minute job with a $ 1,200 long block from Northern Tool. Short engine life is a problem with Walker however I still feel Walker 42" gave me the best value for the Market I mowed in. There is no one perfect mower. Each of us cut in different markets and there are many different style mowers that will fit each market.

Ric,did you ever make any attempts at running them cooler? Maybe a bypass filter placed in better airflow along with synthetic oil. Surely these would extend the enging life. Low to the ground also introduces more dirt but I don't know the quality of their airfilter. I bet those three changes would really increase the lifespan.

Yes I put a snorkel on the air cleaner and ran synthetic oil. However unlike Chi town we are a lot hotter here in Florida. The engines didn't stop running so much as lose power and get tired. I could of milked a lot more time from them.

Have you considered liquid cooled engines?

Since I no longer cut grass, I am not interested in Walkers except to cut my own grass. My 1997 Walker should last me the rest of my life. I looked at the Diesel engines as well as the Liquid cooled. Once again the low design of Walker that makes it hug the hills left the Radiator low to the ground. In the dry season the radiators were more trouble than than value. Since I was only running 42" decks I went with the Engine that gave me the best success, 20 Hp Kohler. A standard Kohler will not fit in a Walker. However you can buy the special manufactured engine for a Walker from Northern Tool at the best price.

Through the Years I looked at what offered me the best production with the least amount of problems, and found Walker Mowers to work best on my average cut up 4K lawns. Replacing engines was a cost of doing business that I could live with. My Walkers don't owe me anything. I realize that there are people reading here who didn't spend $ 1,200 on their mower, But a $ 1,200 engine was a bargain to keep a $ 10,000 mower running.

Whats Ten k if it will pay you back?

Sorry, I think you guys are all wet.

Actually, Im pretty sure of it. Just because MM can wield a wrench doesn't mean he's the be-all-end-all of commercial mower knowledge. In fact, his prowess just relays what he really doesn't know. My time is worth more.....

I've had more than a few Walker brand, and found maintaining them to be as simple as the fleet of Lesco equipment I've also run.

Since nothing else can produce the quality of cut, I used them.

AND, unlike MM. I have put more than one brand to actual field trials.
                          GEEVEE®, Pat.Pend. TM, UL

If you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough
