  • Don't Forget This Gas Tip Guys:

Just a reminder so you get some extra gas money back:

You need to keep fuel reciepts seperate for trucks and equipment! Or at least write on your reciepts how many gallons went into the equipment versus the truck. We try to keep them seperate though.

Any fuel you buy for mowers, skid steers, small equipment, etc is charged a road tax at the pump......but you aren't using that equipment on the road.

So, when you do your taxes, you fill out a very simple form that states how many gallons of fuel you used in your equipment.

You will get a decent chunk of change back from the government, which is the on road tax you paid for your off road stuff. I hope that made sense.

    It adds up pretty fast.

Good point! I always fill the cans and equipment seperately (from the truck) for the receipt.

Last year we got a tax credit of $147 on 800 gallons of equipment gas.

This year we are already at 800 gallons purchased.

What about filling the truck off the cans?

What about buying a fuel tank and buying off road diesel from your local oil company? Oops let the cat out of the bag....

Don't do this with DOT regulated vehicles there is a dye in offroad diesel and if they check your ****ed.

Do you know of ANYBODY that has ever been stopped in their diesel truck and had their fuel inspected? It's only illegal if you get caught :-)

Actually, yes. We have had an inspector come to our shop twice and test everything that used diesel. We also had a highway vehicle safety stop once. They tested as well. I use regular on road diesel in everything, even our skid steers. I deduct the taxes later.

The fine is very steep and they give no warnings.
