  • different price each week?

    there is a new fertilizing company in town. his programs consist of 10-12 aplications a season of every unnecesary pesticide known to man, and quick release fertilizers. i have one client who uses him. the growth there is out of control, and totally unpredictable. one week it grows 8-9 inches, the next week over a foot. it's rediculous. this 3,200 sq ft property was estimated at $30 per week. 3 weeks into the season, i aproached her about taking over the ferts. she declined. it was then that i advised her the new mowing price would be "charged accordingly." she understood. the fees for the following weeks were- $50, $47, $40, $35, $38........but never again the original $30. do you have any that you charge in accordance with that weeks growth? oh, and of course, now that it's mid august, her lawn looks like pure crap.

    being a mow monkey, you'll just have to accept that when grass is ferted it grows....too bad but you have to work.

    I would have done a Tony Soprano on you for changing the contract, I'd charge you $100 just for bringing up the issue, another $100 just for thinking about it, and then I'd take 10% of your pull each week. Real MEN keep to their words.

      ya, ok. real BUSINESS MEN know when, and are not afraid to, increase thier prices as needed.

            i've never heard of that, charging a diff. amount each week. let me ask you though, why the upcharge? doesn't it still take you just as long to mow it whether it grows 8 inches or a foot? unless your bagging i would think it would still take the same amount each week. i am newer the lawn business and have not experienced the problem you have so maybe i'm missing something.

                Don't change them each week but when I change them if they don't have a heart attack at the "new price" then I covered all my bases for awhile

                  I have to say that I never heard of different prices when on a schedule. I'm sort of surprised that someone agreed to it. If the yard strains your equipment, drop her. I do have different prices for different schedules; for example: 7 days-$30, 10/11 days-$35, 2 weeks-$40. I don't think i'd mow a yard that was that high. I'm just being selective these days.

                    i'm being selective also, that's why i upped it. you see.....i first saw her yard in the winter, when she called about a broken limb to be removed. then she called late in the spring inquiring about lawn mowing. i knew the size of the yard + its layout, so i gave her a price. after mowing it a couple times, it became apparent that someone was putting a whole lot of fertilizer on this lawn. so i asked her, and she said yea, a new fert company has her on some kind of 10 treatment lawn maint plan ok, whatever. so, i had to cover my azz on the extra time spent with the excessive growth. i know most everyone here would have just continued at the same price all year even though there were unforseen circumstances that hindered thier progress. that's why most people fail in the lawn business.

                      i would have kept the 30$ figure but mowed it 2 times per week.

                        good luck getting people to commit to a mow every 3.5 days. how is that scheduled, btw, if it rains for 2 days strait........you'll end up mowing that cornfield, for $30.

                          its just my opinion but i come to this forum for help in my lawn business and i don't think its very fare for you to just let me figure the answer out on my own "if i'm still business" it sounds like i might be missing something vital. i guess i'll find out tomorrow because i've been off work for the last 2 days because of the rain so some of the yards will be extra long but i don't plan on it taking any longer unless theres "clumping"

                            Don't mind bobby, he is a computerized member that is programmed to get people fired up.
