  • cutting pinestraw

I am new in the business and just picked up a client that has several pinetrees in his yard. I thought my 44" exmark would cut it up pretty good but was disappointed. I ended up blowing it all to the center of the yard and raking it up. If I bought a mulch kit would that do a good job with leaves? I dont have the dough for a bagger now especially with the prices of the exmarks. I need some kind of ocdc anyway to keep clipping out of the beds.
Would a mulch kit do what I need?

nope,, best thing to do is blow it into the gardens if they're already using pinestraw as mulch, then mow.

Save your money for the bagger. The mulch kit is not much cheaper than the bagger. I bought two mulch kits this year and wish I had not. They don't make leaves disappear like some would have you believe. The only thing they are really good for is to keep the clippings out of the beds, and at that, grass still gets in the edges of the beds.

It's amazing how many times you can hit that straw with a mulcher. It doesn't disappear, it just gets frizzy and soft. Get a huge rake and a tarp to get it, or large (55 gallon bags), and see if it's faster than a bagger from the mower. Blow it to the center and pick it up, or in the beds like someone suggested. Just do what's easier, or faster for you. Personally, i never fool with a bagger. I have an extra wide rake and just lightly drag it across the yard, put it all in a tarp, then cut with a mulcher. Another lady lets me just blow it all to one side of the yard in the bed and she spreads it out later.

It didnt take an extra 15 minutes to rake it up. looking at the exmark baggers...$1400... I dont think so. What some decent aftermarket baggers?

Since i don't fool with baggers, i don't know what else you need, but i found these grass catchers on ebay > http://search.ebay.com/search/search...+grass+catcher

The grass catchers have seriously got to hinder your meunevarability. They just hook on the discharge and go practically straight out right? I think I am going to buy an ocdc and worry with the bagger later.

I don't know anything about pine straw, but I have seen a few pine trees and I'm well aqquainted with the Fir tree...

I have had a few lawns over the years that got alot of debris in the winter and we would "mow" them with a Billy Goat vac...leaves stripes and all.
