  • todays emergency service score/s

today was exceptionally good. the day unfolded with- as we are loading up to head out, a lady calls "ring, ring- hello, bob's lawn service, where is the emergency?" HER:" hi, my boyfriend was a landscaper, he dropped a load of topsoil in my backyard. then, we got in a fight, and he just left it there, in a pile. we broke up, i need someone to spread it in my back yard. please, send help" ME:" ma'm, just relax, i'll have an emergency response team there immediately." and so, 5-10 minutes later, i'm there with 2 wheelbarrows, 2 shovels, and my big metal rake. i quickly evaluate the situation, calm her down, and quote her a price to do it RIGHT NOW. the soil was roughly 6 cu yds that needed to be wheelbarrowed and spread/raked thruout various lowspots in her 1,000 sq ft back yard. i quoted $500, all greenbacks, take it or leave it. she took it. 1.5 hrs later, we were done. 2 men, for a total of 3 man hours, for $500 divided by three= a nifty $166.66 per man hr. the best thing- no materials, no fuel, no equipment. just good ole fashion elbow grease. from there we went to our scheduled emergency service, after completeing that, at an amazing $200 per man hour, i had not ONE but TWO neighbors come over asking about lawn renovation. both of thier properties were around 200-300 sq ft, and needed to be thatched + seeded. i quoted them both $275 to have it done NOW. they both went for it, and so it came to pass. when will you little boys ever learn, we are a consumer of RIGHT NOW. we don't want to wait for ANYTHING. and, we are willing to pay for it. cheers

There were costs involved with this job that you are neglecting to recognize.

Advertising this phone number for her to call.

Various licensing and insurance. The wheel barrow and shovels hopefully weren't stolen. You didn't walk to this job, I'm sure.

And just how are you getting 100 lawns a week done?-

6 yards (9 tons) of topsoil that has been sitting for a while, moved to various locations, and spread in 3 man hours by wheel barrow?

Let me elaborate...equipment is paid off....so I pay cost of fuel...wear and tear...and my man hours but since im running the equipment then Im not spending as much. Today was productive...14 granite steps with walkways from the steps to the first 4 steps...then a walkways to the next 5 steps then a walkway to the last 5 steps with a walkway from that to the driveway. 12 yards of mulch...3 rhodes, 4 buringing bushes...6 barberry...a couple of cypris and some perenials....I gotta recheck the total cost...but granite steps were 3000 just in materials...took up 1.5 days to dig out set the walkways and everything is compacted...all I have to do is clean up tomorrow due to rain here. Tomorrow 3 lawn installs a 450 Sq.ft patio with 2 40 foot retaining walls....plus the plantings..looks like this will be a good week...of and my mowing guys asked me if they could work late mon-thursday to get friday off..I said anything you guys want as long as your ok with it.
