  • Florida boys still mowing weekly

Still mowing weekly here, but have noticed the last week that the grass is starting to grow slower now. I'm hoping to get another full month billing from all my customers that are not set up year round. Glad most accounts (40) are set up yearly although I'm curious to see how it's going to go this year. Sometimes it's hard enough to get money out of people even in the summer. Guess I'll be looking for other money making opportunities for a few months. Any of you Florida guys here? What you do in the winter months? Buy a catcher and do leave removal? Can you make enough money to pay for the catcher equipment $2600? If nothing else it should keep my current year round customers happy, and with me another year.
Others states out there still mowing, or what is everyone doing now?

Irrigated and application sites are still twice weekly. Conventional ( i have 1) are still weekly but could go 10 days i guess?

Our turf is 90% throttle right now far as i can tell. Dont expect it much longer however because our nightime temps dropped like arock in the past 2 weeks. When it stops it stops fast. 2 weeks can make a huge difference here.

We've mowed up a week before Xmas,,,, aint gonna happen this year. Foliage about 10-20% decline in N.central ohio,,, about 5-10% in central ohio.

our drought just broke, so anything that hasn't been irrigated is waking up..

we try to stay away from weekly accounts

We have only a few weekly accounts during the winter months there are always snow birds that want additional work so we dont really notice a diff. As we pick up a monthly account we drop the weekly people in the winter months and dont renew them the next summer. In the past few years we have only lost 3 monthly accounts in the winter, believe it or not they were just the mow & blow customers on the lower end of our price range oddly enough the people that pay more for full service dont drop us. Looking forward to shorter days in the winter months.

This year is weird for me. I have more weekly accounts than i ever had, and i'm getting more customers very late in the season. I'll probably do those weekly accounts thru october. no complaining here.

Still mowing weekly, but it is slowing down as we lose our daylight. I have a few customers that want a little sod work done. Git-r-done. Good time to get caught up on some bush trimming. Alot of my customer,s are on golf course,s
with lots that can be expanded to the greens. Always take a few weeks off in December and enjoy the holiday. I,ve gotten a few late year customers as well.

Seems some of you catagorize your monthly and weekly different. All of my customers get weekly service in sumer, bi-weekly service in winter and pay for the month in advance (except a few oldies that I let pay me by cut), I hate having to hunt a customer down each week, so they automatically pay more.
Do you not service your monthly cutomers weekly? Many of the other companies around here charge monthly, then mow every 10-12 days. May work out for some, but many of the Gray Hairs here in Florida want to see you every week, and on the same day. If you didn't show up, they may stand there looking out the window for days. I can't tell you how many customers that I have picked up the 2nd half of this season from customers changing service because they were not getting weekly service. I in turn get by with charging at least 75 percent more than them though.

Joe, Those blue hairs crack me up. They really are set in their ways. I,ve got one guy that even in a driving rain , on the day his lawn is to be taken care of ,he wants a call that your not coming, go figure. Gotta have thick skin sometimes.
