one of my customers asked if i could do some hedge trimming for her and i said that i would let her know next week what the cost would be because she said she was in no hurry as long as it got done by the time mowing season was done which is about four more weeks here give or take hopefully longer. what she wants is just trimmed even straight across she has a row lined straight across her back privacy fence so i dont think it will be something i cant handle. what is the going rate for something like this. do you guys charge by the bush or just estimate the hours spent and give the price. dumping is free for me because i have somewhere so i just have to drop it off no fee. i know this may be a pretty elementary question but i dont want to underbid it. thanks

Dump fees must be included...
Even though you can dump for free, you must include time involved going there, dumping & getting back to where you're keeping the equipment at... This is labor intensive & must be included in to labor to do the bushes also.
I had a place that I could dump & burn at my house, I always included that time as labor added on to labor to get the job done. In most cases it was 15 minutes each way (Windshield Time Must be Included) & I always figured at least 30 minutes minimum dump time so the minimal time was at least 1 hour labor for dump fee.
Don't forget time involved in cleaning up clippings after trimming bushes?
Bushes & Hedges are hard to figure until you've done a few jobs & then it's still a little hard to figure. It just takes time to get the time right. Always schedule this when you have no other jobs to do in case it takes you 6 hours to do a a job that you thought would only take 4 to 5 hours.
There's very good money in trimming bushes & clean ups, it can be very profitable for you & it surely beats the hell out of cutting grass Dollar Wise!
I only screwed up a couple of clean up bids & then my bids were pretty close time wise... Experience is the Best Teacher! When in doubt add another hour or so.GrassMaster, LSF Administrator!
