• Lawn Mowing on Military Bases

has anybody ever gotten a lawn contract for a military base or any of the squadrons on base?

We had this one guy from Dover. He'd win bids on military contracts up and down the East coast, then subcontract it out to a local LCO. He'd fly in every so often to check up but that was it. He got $500 per week, 52wks a year, for this one that I estimated would take me three-four hours alone. These contracts are up yearly and are always posted, but you just have to find out where.

Unfortunately where I'm at, they eliminated the single squadron "maintaing their own concept" and they contracted some yahoo which went downtown to the local temp service and got a bunch of people to work for $6.50 an hour. It kills me knowing that.

Try contacting the military base contracting office. They are usually the ones that let out and monitor contracts.

Many years ago I went to a pre bid meeting and site visit at an Army Depot in the Pocono’s. About 50 miles from my location.

The specs were cut 1.5 acres by the front door every 7 days and cut 20 acres (all chopped up areas around multiple buildings) every 14 days and bag all the grass. Yes bag, remove, and dispose the grass off site. The "Commander" did not want any clippings flying around for this area is a bit high in elevation and quite windy most of the growing year.

Imagine how much fun one would have with those two week old clippings in May and June. You would drive 20 feet and the bag would be full. Also you had to mow the 20 acres at one shot. You could not mow one half or 10 acres per week to aid in scheduling.
So one week you did 1.5 acres and 21.5 the next week.

Once I read the specs I opted to get in my car and leave before even taking the site tour in a military van. I have not been back since.
