  • Problem Customers

Does it seem like certian customers are always a problem? I have a few that are almost immposible to deal with. They have bahia grass lawns and only want the lawn serviced every 2 weeks. The lawns are bid for once a week. When we arrive to cut the lawn on a weekly basiswe get turned away, even though there has been sufficient growth. The next week we are allowed to cut but the customers are not satisfied with one pass with the mower. We then end up cutting twice for the same amount, which is not profitable. I have tried many times to explain this to them with no success. Mabey someone knows a better way!!!

All my customers are good and I almost never have a problem. But recently I decided to drop one. It was an older man who only spoke a small amount of english. He was really cool and wasn't a problem but sometimes he would cut his grass himself. I tried to tell him and thought I got through to him. I came by one week and it was done. I got fed up called him to tell him sorry your cancelled but his lady answered who really cant speak english. So I may call him again but he is cancelled. You can't run a business when customers cut there own grass.

Bill them extra. If THEY tell you to skip the lawn, tack on 30-40% or more with the next cut because of extra growth and more time spent servicing. If they get mad, do as Zack said....say bye bye.

I agree, tell them you have to charge more and if they don't like it get rid of them and let them hire a scrub to do their lawn.

if they ask you to make a second pass tell them it will cost them for two cuts. that will break them one way or the other.

Whenever you submitted the bid didn't they point out the fact that they wanted it done on a bi-monthly basis? When you provide the bid they should see that you are bidding on the customary once per week schedule and they should have pointed it out at that moment. It seems that something is missing because either you or the customer should have caught a mistake in the bid or preference to cut it every other week. I'm not saying you did something wrong, I'm just saying that it seems like a major detail to have gone overlooked. Anyway, it seems that they are not worth keeping anyhow, especially if they won't let you do other things to make your money besides mowing.

My biggest problem is little old ladies, mostly widows, that I think call me to cut the grass to talk to me. I don't mind, but I like to get busy in the early hours they hold me back untill the sun is cooking me. Then they inite you in for some lemon aid then con you in to doing one more little quick thing...then another...then another...arrrrrGGGG!! I began charging 20$ an hour just for odd jobs...and most still don't seem to mind.
