I have the oppertunity to get a deal of a lifetime price on a parking lot sweeper. We are a full service property care company and already do more then mow and landscape, so it wouldn't be a huge leap. It is somthing i thought we might do way down the road, but not in the near future. What do i need to know about this biz, and would it be a good service to add.

i did parking lot sweeping for a little while. i had a tymco sweeper truck. the only problem i had was keeping someone in the truck. the work usually needs to be done at night when no cars are in the lots, and in bad weather it really sucks. It can be a money maker though. You can sell it to customers that you do snow for, because when there is snow on the lot you cannot sweep. Around here it brought between $70-$100 per hour. But when the truck goes down it's usually a couple of days on parts and they are expensive. You can also sell the emptying of trash cans as well. Another financial issue is a place to dump. We shared a dumpster in back of one of the parking lots we swept, so look into that as well so you save driver time going back to the shop to dump.
hope this helps some

I guess my main questions are,
How often is it usualy done?
What type of biz want this?
Is there a high enough demand to justify it?
There is only one or 2 co. here that i know of who offer this, and not sure who gets this done. Is it somthing alot of places have done and i don't see them at 3 am or is it a select market. The driver problem i can deal with for now but will be something to consider for the future.
FYI The sweeper is a large industrial unit but i think it is large enough to do Parking lots, If this matters.

i did the lots every night. We took care of all types of businesses.(walmart, kroger, family dollar,). All of the malls around here have it done nightly. The coffee shops have it done as well. Most of the 24 hour walmarts couldn't be done until after 3 am. The demand in this area is huge. Most of the big guys now have at least one truck, and there are some businesses who that is all they do. There is one company who has a fleet of about 15 trucks and thats all they do. The demand is always there, because people are too lazy to throw trash in the can and would rather just throw it in the lot. It's kinda funny as I look back, at tax time you would not believe how many boxes for televisions there were in the walmart parking lots. The money burns a whole in their pocket, and they have to get a great big tv to put in their little apartments. They have to sit in the kitchen to watch it, but they have a big tv. Sorry little bit of as rant there but iot burns me to watch someone buy a great big tv, bring it out of the store to put it in an old piece of crap that backfires and misses as they take it home.you'd think they would get a tuneup or buy something decent. It's a different type of bird that shops at walmart after midnight. I'm assuming that the unit is a walk behind version with a big bag. You will not be able to demand the typical dollar per hour as you will be going slower than someone in a truck. But you can sell quality because you can get into places the truck can't get.
