When you are just starting out, what is the best means of advertising to get business?

I started out this spring for the first time. What I did for advertising was simply make a sign saying, "Need Your Lawn Cut Call Jon" and put it outside my house. I'm lucky enough to live on the busiest street in my town and got many calls. I recieved about 30-40 calls of which I now have aproximately 18 regulars. I also made fliers and gave them to houses I saw were overgrown or not taken care of. Make sure he get business cards made for your self, you can goto vistaprint.com

Thanks for the response Really well cut. Thats a good idea. I was thinking of starting with a newspaper ad. I got some business cards made up. It seems that people who want a service already have one for this season. Maybe a few here and there still need someone but i'll probably finish out this year at my job and start fresh early next season.
