  • Damn moles!

No known pesticides have been proven to be (truely) effective in the control of moles.

How do you control the boogers?

I'll post what *should be* a very effective approach.

    Chase moles instead of cattle.

First thing we need to know....

Moles are very territorial. While mole runs can connect, moles do not use each others runs (exception being for mating). Therefore, just trapping one mole very well could put an end to your mole problems, even if for just a short while.

How territorial are they? Moles have been known to kill each other.

        More to follow.

depends on the time of year here in hooterville.

my first deal would be to take away their food source. in the spring or summer, i used ARENA which gives a good season long control of grubs and other crap. this time of year i use DYLOX which gives a contact kill as these larvae are deep in the ground and your little boogers are digging deep to get to them and tearing up some stuff in the process. you can also use baited traps, but as i said, i've had luck with killing the food source.

              True Steve....

Butt you could still have moles destroying the lawn in search of food, even if it ain't there. Around my parent's house, the moles are horrible. Even if I where to kill off all grubs, earthworms, and other such food sources, the fact the neighbors don't treat for such food sources only offsets what I'd do. The mole(s) still could (and usually do) traverse across the lawn into one of these feeding hotspots.

So you gotta locate a commonly used tunnel and trap the SOB........more on that later.

You didn't hear this from me:

Cut up some carrots, let them start to dry out pretty good until wrinkled. Soak them in anti-freeze and they will absorb it very well. Put some of those carrot pieces in the new tunnel.

                      Or use some traps.

That first video reminds me of hearing this once:

"Here hold my beer and watch this".

Give your 6 year old a mattock and have him stand guard over the lawn.

I killed my first mole when I was six. Stabbed the SOB in place with a pitchfork and chopped it in half with my dads mattock. I was scared it was gonna hurt my kitty kat. Afterwards it received a proper burial.
