Most of you common folk lawn jockeys just wouldn't understand....esp if you've worked for mom and pop operations.

Once you get employees, you might understand.

A maintenance formans value is based on his ablity to bring in money.

His knowlage of plant material is needed, but a 2 year degree is overkill for a forman. If he was wanting to be in higher level of managment, then it would be helpful, but not nessisary. Because he stated he dose not want to handle the business crap, and just wants to work in the feild, i would assume thats as far as he wants to go in this industry.

The key to this discussion is maintenance forman. A 2 year degree would not get him a dollar more in that position.

you could always be like me.........

just some dumb azz who decides to start a lawn care business and don't know squat and learns on his own, not needing no fancy education, but just a tiny bit of common sense and a good forum with a bunch of other dumb azzes. dave, you wanna make real $$$, either own the business or get another occupation. the $$$ you are saying you make or want won't even pay yardrat's drinking bill for a week.

Meander over to Oregon State University and ask to speak to an adviser. Can't be more than 15 minutes away from you? Great hort program. http://hort.oregonstate.edu/

Around the Portland metro area, there are a few community colleges that offer associates and certificate programs.

Seriously, get some certificates that would make you more valuable to the lawn turd.................Bring something to the table.........................
Example - One of my guys just got his commercial pesticide applicators license, guess what , he will make more money because for this I will give him a raise...............................

yes the rat makes sense. if i were to spend 2 years of my life in college (which i wouldn't in the first place) why not get a degree where you can sit in a/c all day and work mon-fri, 8-5???

i mean don't get me wrong i love my business but i can't imagine going to school for this shi+. i have this business because i don't want to go to school to get some degree and i this is something i can do and love doing without a degree.
