How Long Will It take You To Cut 100 Houses

you must be dealing with diff. grass than in my neck of the woods because grass around here looks extremely better when cut a diff. pattern each cut. i never use the same pattern twice in a row. i have 4 patterns i use. grass cut in the same pattern each time lays over and you get some noticeable tire tracks. and since i do use diff. patterns i can honestly say the patterns do NOT change the time spent on the property. i spend 30 min. on an average size yard no matter what pattern i cut. the only thing that slows my time down or speeds it up is when it's windy which can either speed up my clean up time or drag it out.Originally posted by GeorgiaLandscaper View PostI think you all are way over estimating the time. Almost all of our contracts are maintenace free neighborhoods. One neighborhood in particular has 122 yards in it. All yards are between 10000 to 15000 square foot and some corner lots being double that size. We also cut the entrance and a few common areas in it.
With a four man crew, my guys finish this neighborhood in 9 to 10 hours. 1 day. At first it will take you longer but if you cut the same pattern every time you and the guys will have it down pack with in 3 cuts.
You have to figure out the most productive way to cut and use your men for that particular neighborhood.

4 guys and you can only shave off 10 min. of time from that 40 min. yard??? that doesn't make sense. you should be able to at least cut the time in half. 2 mowing, 1 trimming and 1 blowing.Originally posted by Dreamaloud1 View PostWell, I don't have as much experience with the properties like that as the other guys. But...
My yard is similar in size to what you describe. With my 52 Exmark TT I can get the whole thing cut, trimmed, and edged in 40 minutes by myself. Things definately go faster with a few guys and I bet you could get that time down to 30 total minutes which would be 7.5 minutes X 4 guys working.
It seems to me that if it takes you 6 hours to do 26 props, even after discounting off time moving from house to house on your mower...funny sight I'm sure...
you're still averaging almost 1 man-hour per house. Assuming that you maintain this pace you're making $22 a yard. Even Just Mow-It makes more than that on a yard!

Maybe, I'm being conservative. Perfect math gets you into business trouble.Originally posted by spotremix View Post4 guys and you can only shave off 10 min. of time from that 40 min. yard??? that doesn't make sense. you should be able to at least cut the time in half. 2 mowing, 1 trimming and 1 blowing.
Besides, you going to tell me 1 guy is going to trim 300 ft of fenceline, all the beds, trees, etc- plus hit what the mowers miss- and edge the yard, driveway etc in less than 7 minutes. Com'n spotty! If anything I'd have the blower guy doing the edging too.

I divide all the neighborhoods up in sections. blocks, or a street, ect...)
You always have a guy trimming and edging being that is what is going to take you longer. In most properties we have a guy mowing the backs and a guy mowing the fronts. The guy mowing the backs always gets done first so he either starts blowing or helps the trimmer man because that is what takes the longest. Before anyone goes on to the next section, everyone helps blow or finsh up what needs to be done.
Equipment on truck:
48" walk behind
46" ztr
2 trimmers
1 edger
3 blowers

I did not mean the pattern as the directions in which you cut. I ment the pattern as you always start at the same spot in the neighborhood and always finish in the same spot. That way everyone always knows what is going on. More of a routine I guess you could say.Originally posted by spotremix View Postyou must be dealing with diff. grass than in my neck of the woods because grass around here looks extremely better when cut a diff. pattern each cut. i never use the same pattern twice in a row. i have 4 patterns i use. grass cut in the same pattern each time lays over and you get some noticeable tire tracks. and since i do use diff. patterns i can honestly say the patterns do NOT change the time spent on the property. i spend 30 min. on an average size yard no matter what pattern i cut. the only thing that slows my time down or speeds it up is when it's windy which can either speed up my clean up time or drag it out.

that's a broad question. 15000 and under. even total sq/ft might help on this thread somewhat.............duh..........................

you're still averaging almost 1 man-hour per house. Assuming that you maintain this pace you're making $22 on a 15k yard. Yikes.
Anyway, I'm with Highlander...If these houses are all in a row and no travel time I bet you could do it 1.5 days. After labor/expenses you should clear maybe a grand a week?
i think somebody on here needs to buy a MEASURING WHEEL and re-measure those yards.

Will the contract for the year be over 50000.00 total?Originally posted by Grasshoppers1 View Post$2200.00 per cut
You may want to check your state board of contractors for that, so call dem. If I am correct, in LA, you will need a general contractors license, sub classification-Landscaping,beautification for projects over 50g's....................
^^^check it out and save those fine $$$$'s if yous arse turned it by a jealous competitor that knows the law.....
