trash pickup

below is a pic of one of the commercials I mow. They want to include cleaning up the garbage weekly on the property. I can throw it in the dumpster. I was gonna carry a stick and bucket around w/ me while on the Z, and anything else, just blow into the woods behind the property, heheh (I'm just kidding lol).

Blue = property outline, black = landscape beds, bright green = islands w/ just ground cover, and red = where I normally see junk laying around. It's hard to say how much there is on a weekly basis, between picking up into a bucket, and blowing it w/ a BP blower, I would say maybe another 10 mins? Any idea how much to add onto the mowing price ($40/week). The mowing takes 20-25 mins in and out w/ 2 people. And we only go about 1/2 to the blue line behind the building and towards the top of the pic near the driveway since it is either trees or a steep overgrown bank.

Tell the manager it will be between $10.00 - $30.00 depending on the amount of trash each week.

i would personally charge $35 per man hour just to pick up the trash. being that it's a commercial property.

i don't pick up $ h i t unless it will hurt my mower and then i'll go around it. i guess that's why i don't do commercials. i ain't nobodys beotch..........

If he has 7 of these a week and gets $30 a pop ,and sometimes may actually only have to pick up a bubble gum wrapper , that extra $30 X 7 $210 buckerooskees will pay for all his gas making it a non issue as far as gas goes.....

Plus he`s already there and it doesnt cost anything travel wise anyway.....

Maybe he`ll have 100 of these gigs eventually, so it could be nice pocket change if played right ....

Id rather do that then look for far and distant new customers making less per hour.....

How many square feet are you mowing for the $40 charge? How much trash is actually on the property? Does the $40 chsrge allow any extra for anything else or is that actual time spent on site and loading up and getting off site? Do a test run on the trash. The next day you plan on cutting go out there the day before and pick it up, time yourself and charge according to your hourly rate.

We do a lot of commercial. We allocate into all contracts at least 15 minutes for clean up. Thats about $16.25 per week for each commercial property. Some may take less, some more, but it averages out.

sq/ft i dunno. Only 10 mins of riding on the ztr, if that. Its more trimming than anything else. What the market here bares for the property. Really should be $45, but I'd lose it fast, even at this price, someone would bid $35 but the manager likes me. I make a killing on the snowplowing though (when it does snow). Figure I'll take it, helps fill out the schedule. Plus the fact that this year, the company wants to give me all the rest of the locations for plowing (maybe even mowing next year) for all their locations in the area (that are located on the major highway this location is on in this country) since we are always reliable and do good work.

reason for the trash removal is, the company employees don't have time to do it and it builds up. People also tell me all the time, "I say you mowing X location" (pictured above), so it looks bad when I hit all the trash there. Like tranny said, if I can make the money while there and not have to move the truck, why not. I'll do anything if someone pays me. Hell, I'll cut their grass naked for extra money.

If im someplace for whatever reason being paid for somthing and the customer wants somthing else done and willing to pay me more $$$ i would feel crazy to pass it up.....

If i got done cutting a lawn and the elderly lady offered me $100 bucks to vacuum the living room why pass it up ??????

Iv had people call me asking if i would paint a bedroom or 2 for a few hundred bucks , do so ,and get done , then they offer me $50 bucks to program the TV remotes and set the clocks they couldn't figure out so i already spent the travel time and fuel getting there and im not gonna worry about being somebody's beotch if the extra $100 bucks or $50 can be stuffed in my wallet for 5 minutes worth of work.....

Passing that easy a buck up is just like throwing it away.....

And for what ???? To spend time energy and money wasting gas driving around looking for other work when you already have it sitting where your presently at.....:laughing:

If you go by the photo provided and look , you dont think the time an energy of walking the property and looking is worth $20-$30 bucks......

Nobody i know does anything for $5 dollars , but thats people i deal with , and most people wouldnt expect you to waste time getting out of your vehicle for 5 bucks....

The doorhinge wear will be more then you`ll make charging $5 in my opinion in a years time..... Plus what if he moves the truck around to save time , but has to shut it off ...

You got starter wear to consider unless you leave it idling gobbling fuel....

Theres a lot of variables making $20-$30 a fair price regardless how effecient he is as far as i view it....

If im going that low like $5 , then i`ll just do it for nothing and take the great guy pat on the back as payment because $5 isnt gonna buy or change anything in my life.....

If he`s fast on his feet and more efficient then the average person and gets it done in 1 minuite should he just wave the charge because he`s a hussler or get the calculator out and add $0.45 cents to the bill ?????

I wasn't suggesting he make a special trip for $5, I was talking about during his regular mowing visit. My time lines and prices were simple examples. My advice will be profitable due to the fact that he won't be using any fuel or starters while he walks around to pickup litter.

And I'm certainly not TELLING him what to do or not to do. But my way will work and make him money. I've been sucessful for over 15 years now without another job to live off of.

Oh yeah, please don't take this wrong that I don't agree with you. Hell it's just grass and litter nobody will die from it, Rev.
