  • Licenses for Florida

Does any one know where I can get licenses for irrigation and fertilizing in Florida? I keep researching on the net and can't find anything. Thanks for the help

    Florida Fertilizer license

Try this link. You get the forms for the Florida department of agriculture for the fertilizer license. I didn't look for the irrigation. I'd look here first.
    Link:

    Good luck,

for fert you have to have three years experience or degree to take the test and for irrigation installs I think you have to have a plumbers license.

Davem, I think that link is for people wanting to SELL fertilizer. Applying ferts in Florida does not require a license as long as it doesn't contain pesticides. At least I've been told.

It looks like he would be considered a "Dealer", which has certain liabilities and appears to require a license. I could be wrong on this, but the definition looks that way to me.

I would suggest calling William Cox (Phone: (850) 487-2085), from the link, on this.

here is a quote I found from a post from a while back.

Fl. requires no particular licensing for using fertilizers that contain no pesticides, such as a 16-4-8 that contains no herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, etc. But.....if you want to use Weed and Feed and other like products on turf grass in Fl. you are required to have the Commercial Lawn & Ornamental license. That's the one all of the professional pest control operators have such as True Green, Hulett Environmental Services, Truly Nolan, etc.
However they do offer a Limited category to which you referred. It allows the holder to use CAUTION labeled products in weed beds and on shrubs, ornamentals, etc. It specifically excludes turf.
Contact me if you want any additional info. I have classes all the time that will qualify you to take the Limited Commercial Landscape exam.

what he said, however I doubt your going to have many customers that would want you to fert without killing weeds. The dollar weed and other broadleafs can get pretty bad in the summer months, and to get that certification like I said you need a 3 year degree or work for a pesticide company for 3 years. to just do beds and bushes you just take a class and then the test.

Correct info for the unwashed masses

                      Yo

Irrigation licenses are issued by every county. Each county has a different requirement, but the state has a block test that most if not all counties require. The block test is in two parts. 1st irrigation which an idiot can pass. 2nd is contractor law, which IMHO is the hardest test I ever took. I didn't renew my irrigation license, so I no longer keep up with the industry.

Commercial Pesticide Certification are hard to get. Florida has the hardest tests in the nation if not the world. College degree with one year experience working for a CPO or 3 years working for a CPO is required to sit for a test less than 50% pass on there 3rd or 4th try.

Roundup license for yard boys is a 6 hour class and 2 hour test any idiot can pass. It also requires you carry insurance. I used to be a CEU Provider and taught that class until the county extension agents started giving it for free.

Fertilizer License is now required by many counties. Even some cities are now requiring Fertilizer licenses. Some cities I know of don't allow any fertilizer applications between June 1st and Sept 30. Currently there is a state wide fertilizer law before Florida's representatives. I am not sure if it has passed yet, but it will pass. It requires a fertilizer license and has many restrictions.
