  • Maximize your profits

With the thread by Mr Campbell about trimming every other week has sparked interest.......... What are others ways of Maximizing your profits????????
What about when the lil ole lady asks you to weed her beds and you run your string trimmer thru them and then charge 50 bucks for 5 minutes worth of weedeating, listed as hand weeding - $50.00 on the bill.......
Instead of wasting time picking up the trash, just discharge it into the street or the neighbors yard.........
When cleaning leaves just blow them into the neiighbors yard with your WB blower..............

Thank You Sir For Giving Me Some Credit Where It Is Do. I Will Say That Using The Trimmer As A Means For Weeding Beds Works Very Well And I Do It All The Time For My Prep Work On Mulch Beds. As For The Other Stuff You Mentioned, There Are Times When I'll Take The Backpack And Blow Clippings And Mulched Up Paper Into The Middle Of The Street. It's In The Street, Who Cares?

I cut adjust my cutting height (within reason) so I don't have to trim around the mulch beds, and around the apartment buildings.

these practices are the practices of scrubs.

if you truely want to maximize profit try doing the job the correct and professional way and watch your clientel shoot through the roof.

some of us on here want to maintain a professional business scrub boy.

maybe in your neck of the woods that kind of stuff will fly but i know where i live it's a diff. story.

each and every yard i mow each and every day gets trimmed. when blowing off the walkways and driveway the clippings are blown back into the yard (there really aren't that many since i use mulching kits on the mowers). all trash is picked up and discarded NOT put in the street. i actually take the blower to the street curb ridding it of dirt and debris.

in the kinds of neighborhoods i work in you don't find trash in the streets. you don't find lawn services blowing the leaves and debris into someone elses property.

in this business we are judged by the quality of work we do, NOT the quantity. clients don't give a rats ass how many people you have or how much money you make. each and every client wants to be treated as they are your only client. this is the goal i strive for each and every day i work. i refuse to cut corners just to earn a couple extra bucks because in the long run those corners i didn't cut will earn me much more than a couple extra bucks because people will know the quality work i do and want me to service there property.

the way i always look at it is if i were a customer of a lawn service what would i expect from them.

i wouldn't expect to see trash in the street infront of my house (whether it came from my property or not). i wouldn't expect to see my neighbors yard looking like sheot because all my debris was blown into there yard. infact just the opposite. i want my neighbors yards looking as good as mine. what good is it if my property looks exceptional and to the left and right of me are 2 sheot hole looking places? people aren't going to want to live next to that.

it's clear we both have EXTREMELY diff. goals with this business. my goal is to build a client base that will stick with me for years to come no matter what the prices are that i charge.

you can't achieve that kind of goal by stuffing twigs under bushes and blowing trash in the street.

if you want to hop from client to client with a new set of lawns to mow each week go right ahead cause thats what you'll get. people that wouldn't notice those sort of things or don't care about those sort of things will drop your ass like a ball of fire for the next cheapest person that comes along.

no thank you scrub boy. i'll stick with people that will be loyal to my business and the services i offer because i produce quality work.

I agree, I may adjust my mower height to cut corners, but I will not blow into the neighbors yard or the street to cut corners! You need to remember, that neighbor could end up being your client too someday!

i have to be honest here...........

i got this yard i do on wednesday morning, first cut, 30,000 of turf. i use my discharge mower on this one and when i'm done the street is a mess. but, while i'm mowing the rest, cars go by and more cars go by. when i pack up and leave, i'm just another vehicle going by. i'm sure b/4 the end of the day, everything is gone.

steve (i should have said the wind from the cars blows it off)

You guys are way behind the times. Just get a yearly prepaid contract and spray Roundup on the yard. Tell the customer to call you when it needs cut.
